Refusing to give up when everything says “stop!” Growing up in a culture where many girls are encouraged to drop out of school early, I was just a young girl with a dream. However, I've always felt deep down that I was destined for something bigger. My life changed when I was in the seventh grade, I got married and relocated to Addis Ababa. I was already taking on obligations that were beyond my years at a time when I should have been concentrating entirely on my studies. I refused to give up on my schooling even though life was difficult. Staying true to my passion, I pursued my education at Time International Academy in Ayertena. I became a mom by the time I was in grade 9. During that time caring for my lovely daughter and attending school was one of the hardest times of my life. I was mentally exhausted, emotionally overburdened, and physically weak. My in-laws did not encourage me to pursue further education. My trip became even more difficult as a result. But I decided that no matter how challenging life got, I would keep going. Because I understood that my passion was education. During grade 12, it got even more difficult to balance parenthood and school. It was quite difficult to look after my daughter and attend classes at the same time. In order to take care of my infant and continue nursing her while I studied, I later went back to my mother's house. It was really difficult to prepare for a national exam while taking care of a newborn, but I continued. I joined Debre Tabor University's School of Medicine after achieving a high score with perseverance and hard work. My life changed at that moment because it showed that my hardships had not been in vain. However, the challenges continued. I struggled emotionally all the time I was on medical school. "Why am I here while my child is far away?" was a question I asked myself every day. Why don't I look after her? Is this self-serving? I missed my beautiful daughter deeply. Even though I called her every day, it was never enough. Although the distance hurt. Then COVID-19 arrived, which interrupted my education for months and brought uncertainty. Soon after, the northern conflict created pressure, even It made me consider quitting school. These were some of the hardest times in my journey. But I kept going. I persevered in continuing my study despite of early marriage, early parenthood, lack of support, and emotional difficulties. Today, alhamdulillah: I became the Top scorer of the national exit exam from my class of medical students, Top scorer among female medical students and a Gold medalist. My journey is not just about academic success it is about sacrifice, strength, and refusing to give up when everything says “stop.” My message to women and children is that "we can achieve anything with the help of GOD."
