*What's DES303?* DES303 is a course on Community Development. In simple terms, it teaches you how to identify problems in a community and work together to solve them in a way that improves people's lives. What is a community? A community is simply a group of people living in the same area or people who have something in common. Examples include a village, a school, a market, an orphanage, a church, or even a group of people with disabilities. What is community development? Community development means improving people's lives by identifying their needs and working together to solve their problems. It is not just about giving out money or gifts; it is about creating lasting solutions that benefit the community. What will you learn in DES303? You will learn how to: • Identify problems in a community. • Understand the causes of those problems. • Plan a project that addresses the problems. • Work effectively as a team. • Carry out a community development project. • Evaluate whether your project made a positive impact. Why are we visiting a community? The practical aspect of DES303 requires students to carry out a Community Development Project. This means choosing a community or organization, identifying a need, and carrying out an activity that will positively impact the people there. Examples of community development projects include: • Visiting an orphanage to donate food items or educational materials. • Organizing a health awareness campaign. • Cleaning a public environment. • Donating books to a school. • Teaching students about career opportunities. • Planting trees. • Empowering people with useful skills. What does the lecturer expect from you? Your lecturer expects you to: • Participate actively in planning the project. • Work together • Contribute financially • Attend the visitation. • Take pictures and videos as evidence. • Help prepare the final report of the project. How will you be graded? Your DES303 grade depends on the successful upload of the three required documents: • Proposal – Your project plan. • Logbook – A record of your activities and participation. • Report – A summary of the completed project and its impact.

*Why is your semester fee different from other students'?* Many students are asking why the amount showing on their portal is different. Don't panic—it is not a mistake. Here are some reasons: * If you paid your semester fee last semester, you already paid the ₦15,000 TISHIP fee. Since it is paid once in an academic session, it has been removed from your semester fee this semester. * If you didn't register or pay your semester fee last semester, you didn't pay the TISHIP fee. That is why the ₦15,000 has been added to your semester fee this semester. * Not every student will pay the same semester fee. Your programme, level, and registration status can make your amount different from another student's. So, if your portal is showing ₦29,000, ₦46,650, or any other amount, don't panic. It doesn't mean there is a mistake. Check your fee breakdown to see why your amount is different.

The University is informing all newly admitted 100 Level students not to worry if they see course codes they have never seen before on their course registration portal. These new course codes, such as NOUN, BUA, AMS, GST111, and others, are not mistakes. They are part of the new CCMAS curriculum that the University has introduced for students admitted in the 2026_2 semester. This means that the courses offered to previous students are different from the courses that newly admitted 100 Level students will now study. Students should therefore ignore any rumours or concerns that something is wrong with their portal. The course codes are official and have been approved by the University. In simple terms, if you are a newly admitted 100 Level student, the new course codes you are seeing are normal, correct, and part of your programme. Just continue with your registration and studies as directed by your department. CCMAS stands for Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards. It is a new curriculum introduced by National Universities Commission (NUC) for Nigerian universities. CCMAS replaced the old Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS).
