A first-of-its-kind snow leopard population assessment conducted across 6 Indian states has revealed crucial new data - an estimated 718 individuals inhabit about 120,000 sq km of Trans-Himalayan habitat in the country. The 'Status of Snow Leopards in India' report by the Environment Ministry systematically surveyed over 70% of snow leopard range using advanced techniques. It found the highest densities of 0.34 leopards per 100 sq km in Ladakh, which was estimated to harbor half the total population. READ MORE
