In ancient times, people didn't see a big conflict between the soul (spiritual) and the body (material). They recognized that there were differences between the spiritual and material aspects of life, but these differences weren't enough to create a huge divide or conflict. Instead, they saw the spiritual and material as parts of a whole, interconnected and influencing each other. The tension between these two aspects wasn't strong enough to make people see them as completely separate or opposing forces. I will further add to this and say that the said climates and proximity to the unspoiled wilderness evokes and revitalizes our native folk spirit. There is just something about the northlands that stirs the soul and raises the spirit.
