Optimising Ethics 140+ Notes for Mains: One Page, One Notes (OPON) Method An effective notes-making strategy begins by assessing your existing base notes for efficiency and enriching them with current examples, philosophers, keywords, diagrams, and structured intros and conclusions. Prepare One Page, One Notes (OPON) for each theme, covering both macro and micro themes — including 3–4 intro/conclusion templates, 8–10 keywords, 10-12 examples from thinkers and current affairs, antithesis points, and critical analysis with pros, cons, and diagrams. Apply this through answer writing, refining content progressively. Alternatively, start with PYQ-based answer writing, identify content gaps, and plug them back into your OPON for a focused, exam-ready compilation 15–20 days before Mains. 1. Tomorrow, another lakhs of people will walk into exam halls carrying invisible worlds inside them. Fear. Hope. Pressure. Expectation. Guilt. Dreams. Years of sacrifice. Parents’ faith. And somehow, every aspirant feels their story is the center of the universe tonight. Saying this as i know, after a point you stop looking at UPSC like an exam and start looking at it like a slightly toxic relationship you keep returning to because “this time it feels different.” Maybe that’s what makes this exam so heavy but pause for a second and look at the larger picture. For more than 50 years, crores of people have sat for this examination. Some cleared. Some didn’t. Some missed cutoff by 0.66 marks and developed philosophical depth overnight. Some found their purpose through this exam. Some found it after this exam. Life kept moving for all of them. And tomorrow, you are just another name entering that long human story. (So was i) Oddly enough, there is peace in that. You do not have to carry the weight of your entire future into that exam hall tomorrow morning. You are not going there to prove your worth as a human being. You are going there to solve a paper. That’s it. A difficult paper, yes. An important paper, yes. A paper capable of making intelligent people question their existence over one question on millets or lichens? Absolutely yes. But still, just a paper. I’ve sat in 6 prelims now. And trust me, years later You remember the awesome memories created during prep years! The “Bhai cutoff kitna jayega?” experts appearing 14 seconds after Paper 1. The sweaty classrooms. That one guy saying “paper was easy” whom everyone silently wanted arrested. The auto rides. These become lifelong memories. So tomorrow, breathe a little slower. Do not worship the exam so much that you forget yourself in the process. Go there with calm mind. Go there with awareness. Go there like a fighter, Not like someone begging destiny for mercy after studying “important species” for 7 months only to see a question on some plant that sounds like a Harry Potter spell. Yes shit happens, move on to next question! And whatever happens tomorrow, the sun will still rise the next day. Your life will still remain bigger than one OMR sheet. All the best. See you on the other side. -Shubham Ajmera!
