And to be very clear - the seven-branched candelabrum, the menorah - was and remains the central Jewish symbol. It is biblical in origin, described in Exodus as part of the Tabernacle, and it is the official emblem of the modern State of Israel. It represents light, covenant and continuity. Jewish symbols were embraced not in seasons of empire, but in centuries of exile and persecution. The problem has never been the symbol - it has always been the prejudice projected onto it.
