It is biblical in origin, described in Exodus as part of the Tabernacle, and it is the official emblem of the modern State of Israel. It represents light, covenant and continuity. Jewish symbols were embraced not in seasons of empire, but in centuries of exile and persecution. The problem has never been the symbol - it has always been the prejudice projected onto it.

The hysteria surrounding the origin of the Star of David is far more troubling than the symbol itself. The six-pointed star is an ancient decorative motif. It appears in archaeological remains, including the ruins of the synagogue in Capernaum in the Galilee. Its presence there never prevented Jesus from teaching, preaching and healing in that very place.
