Traumatic Fibroma or Focal Fibrous Hyperplasia is a proliferative lesion of a benign nature, being one of the most common conditions of the oral cavity. It is caused by repeated trauma, with greater prevalence in the buccal mucosa (occlusal line), lip mucosa, tongue and gums. It appears in the oral cavity in the form of nodules, generally asymptomatic, and may interfere with chewing and speaking. Treatment is usually surgical excision. What are the differential diagnoses of this lesion? #case_study 🔎🦷✨ @dental_case_study 🔬 @dent_tech_for_u 📚

The initial appearance of nicotinic stomatitis is a grayish and diffusely opaque hard palate, gradually demonstrating asymptomatic papules with an erythematous and umbilicated center, mainly in the posterior region. This is a common inflammatory reaction of the minor salivary gland orifices in response to the heat released by burning substances in smoking. It is important to remember that this lesion is not considered a potentially malignant lesion. #case_study 🔎🦷✨ @dental_case_study 🔬 @dent_tech_for_u 📚

Do you know how to identify the Oral Manifestations of MEASLES? Koplik Spots are considered pathognomonic signs of Measles. Measles has an incubation period of 6 to 21 days. Approximately 48 hours before the onset of the Measles rash, patients may develop an enanthema or Macular rash that is characterized by Koplik Spots. The lesions are whitish, grayish or bluish elevations, measuring 1 to 3 mm with an erythematous base, and are usually seen on the buccal mucosa close to the molar teeth. Clinical improvement usually begins within 48 hours of the appearance of the rash. #case_study 🔎🦷✨ @dental_case_study 🔬 @dent_tech_for_u 📚

Histoplasmosis, caused by Histoplasma capsulatum, is common in patients with untreated HIV, causing oral lesions and severe systemic symptoms. In the oral cavity, the infection manifests as painful ulcers, nodules, or plaques that can simulate squamous cell carcinoma. These lesions have raised edges and necrotic centers, which can make diagnosis difficult. Systemic manifestations include fever, weight loss, severe fatigue, hepatosplenomegaly, and lymphadenopathy. In advanced cases, breathing difficulties may arise, due to pulmonary spread, and gastrointestinal symptoms. The differential diagnosis may also include oral tuberculosis, and the use of histopathological exams and PCR is essential for the precise identification of the fungal agent and rapid initiation of antifungal treatment. The patient was treated  with systemic antifungals, in addition to returning to ART. He was also referred for treatment for alcohol and drug addiction. #case_study 🔎🦷✨ @dental_case_study 🔬 @dent_tech_for_u 📚

This benign growth of bone is called a palatal tori. They can develop anywhere in the mouth, but persist predominantly on the roof of the mouth, on the inside of the lower jaw (lingual tori), or as growths above the teeth on the lip/cheek side of the jaw (buccal exostosis). The third photo shows some midline swelling/excess tissue. Although it looks like there is still a bump there, it is smooth underneath and after healing and tissue remodeling it will look and feel like a normal palate. #case_study #tori #exostosis 🔎🦷✨ @dental_case_study 🔬 @dent_tech_for_u 📚

The patient, a 72-year-old man, with a history of hypertension and diabetes mellitus, does not smoke. He was referred for consultation due to the appearance of "purple spots" under the tongue, without accompanying symptoms and complaints. The exact time of appearance of these formations was also not noted by the patient. A clinical diagnosis was made: Sublingual Varicose Veins . Sublingual varicose veins appear as tortuous and abnormally dilated veins. They are often numerous and located on the ventral surface of the tongue on both sides of the central line and range in color from bluish to purple depending on their depth. No treatment is required. #case_study 🔎🦷✨ @dental_case_study 🔬 @dent_tech_for_u 📚

🐂 SCC of the lip with cutaneous horn overlap. An 85-year-old patient reports a 4-month evolution, without symptoms. Lip squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a type of skin cancer derived from squamous cells, commonly associated with chronic exposure to ultraviolet radiation. This malignant tumor is common in areas with greater sun exposure, such as the lower lip, due to the lower amount of protective melanin and accumulated exposure over the years. A peculiar presentation of SCC is the presence of an overlapping cutaneous horn. The cutaneous horn is a dense keratin structure, similar in shape to a horn, that projects from the surface of the tumor. Although the cutaneous horn itself can occur in benign lesions, the presence of a neoplastic base, as in SCC, indicates the need for attention, as malignancy may underlie the keratinous layer.

🦱 Hair growth on the tongue after surgical reconstruction After resection of tongue lesions, especially extensive lesions such as SCCs in advanced stages, reconstruction may involve skin grafts taken from sites such as the forearm or thigh. These grafts may contain hair follicles that, when transplanted into the oral cavity, maintain their ability to produce hair. This condition, although rare, occurs due to the persistence of the characteristics of the donor tissue, including the presence of cutaneous appendages. Hair growth on the tongue is an infrequent but possible consequence and should be considered during surgical planning. In most cases, the tissue undergoes metaplasia and, after some time, the hair stops growing. ❓️Have you ever seen a case like this? Leukemia is a hematological neoplasm that replaces cells in the bone marrow and bloodstream with proliferative immature hematopoietic cells. Since leukemia is a systemic disease, we can observe manifestations in different parts of the body including the oral cavity. Although oral manifestations are not pathognomonic of leukemia, its presentation should catch your attention. Here are some oral situations that should set off alarms : 1️⃣ Mouth ulcers accompanied by fatigue and weight loss. 2️⃣ Extremely pale or cyanotic oral mucosa. 3️⃣ Gingival enlargement and/or continuous bleeding of the gums. 4️⃣ Petechiae in the oral mucosa. 5️⃣ Herpetic infections repeated or that cause extensive tissue necrosis. #case_study 🔎🦷✨ @dental_case_study 🔬 @dent_tech_for_u 📚

On the tongue, these lesions can manifest as malformed areas that vary in color, from red and purple to blue, depending on the depth and type of vessel affected. They are typically compressible and do not have a pulsation, except in cases of arteriovenous malformations, where there may be high blood flow and pulsatile palpation. The diagnosis is clinical and can be aided by imaging tests, such as Doppler ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging or computed tomography, which allow the assessment of the extent of the lesion and its relationship with adjacent structures. How are vascular malformations treated? 🤔 #case_study 🔎🦷✨ @dental_case_study 🔬 @dent_tech_for_u 📚

Vascular malformations consist of an alteration in the development of blood or lymphatic vessels, which can be classified as capillary, venous, arterial or lymphatic malformations, depending on the type of vessel involved. Unlike hemangiomas, they do not present a proliferative phase, being lesions that grow proportionally to the individual, persistent and often asymptomatic until complications occur.

Amazing. If this is your first time viewing stereoscopic art, start with your phone very close to your face, then slowly pull it back until the two images become three images, with the center one being Three- Dimensional. Using stereoscopic images in Dental Education can be quite valuable as stereoscopy greatly help students' understanding of the spatial relationships in complex anatomical structures. 😱 Like if you are able to see the Sterioscopic 3D view !! ⚠️ #science #amazing 🔎🦷✨ @dental_case_study

I present to you MELANOMA 💣 one of the most aggressive malignant lesions of the oral cavity When faced with pigmented lesions, remember the ABCDE ⬇️ A = Asymmetry, draw a line in the middle of the lesion and verify that both halves are symmetrical. B = Borders, well defined, regular, or irregular? C = Color, is it uniform? Light or dark? D = Diameter, if it is greater than 6mm, worry. E = Evolution, has it grown since it appeared? How fast? #case_study 🔎🦷✨ @dental_case_study 🔬 @dent_tech_for_u 📚
