This is my personal testament to the fact that studying hard is never the same as studying well.
You can cover your desk with piles of notes and formulas, but this usually doesn't mean someone actually understands everything there.
The scraps of paper attached all over my desk are not, for example, things that I fully understand - they are just a set of review sheets that I am supposed to use to make a final revision before the exam next week.
I feel like it's much better to write down the things the way you understand so you can actually know how well you grasped the topic.
That way, the setting in the picture would be a more realistic indicator of someone's committment to and interest in a subject. Ultimately, however, it will all come down to how a person uses those skills he claims he has.
| 2 | 1st day in my 20s.
I had targets i thought i could meet by 18, let alone 20. Didn't quite get what I wanted by now. Nonetheless, I am content with the efforts put into every trial - they brought me closer to where I wanted despite the fact that I didn't get there still. Well, as the saying goes, "if you want to reach the Jupyter, aim for the Voyager 1" or whatever it actually was.
People make new year resolutions at the beginning of a each year. For me, this is the beginning of the year, and it seems more reasonable to me to make my resolutions now. However, though some of you might find it intriguing, I will not lay them out here. The reason is that I think resolutions are mere confinements of our potential - Vision would be a more apt word in this case - and should not be shared with everyone until one gets over them.
With that said, I was lucky enough to be born in my family, in that city, in that country; grow up with such friends; have the freedom to explore my interests, read/watch/listen to what I want.
It's been an interesting 20 years on Earth and I am ever more ready to make the most out of the next 10 years! | 542 |

| 4 | Although I wouldn't understand a lot of what was being discussed, I would always have a feeling that it was important. I'd later dabble in history, although with not a great success despite my fascination with how my middle and high school history teacher delivered the class, and philosophy. The latter became something I grew ever more interested in, perhaps because it offered relatively greater degree of control.
But to me, life was always more than talking about and analyzing territorial disputes or observing the behavior/words of politicians. So, unlike my granddad, I leaned more towards practical trades, which now brought me to AI and, to a lesser extent, bioengineering. However, | 1 |
| 5 | It's that time of my life when I need a drastic and big change.
I've had that period a couple years back.
I let go of many things and did what I had to do. The peer pressure was nonexistent, or at least resisted at all times. Self-control was at its peak.
The ideas and ideals of stoicism are not well understood and still perceived as the tip of the iceberg in philosophical circles, despite it being the cornerstone of human success.
Many don't realize that sacrifice is important to garner longer term joy. To an extent, a single commitment might become one's life's objective, and I find it beautiful. Maybe that's what mainstream media dubs as obsession. Perhaps quiet - discrete - obsession is what we all need. | 1 194 |

| 7 | A bit on what I'm learning this semester.
Learned about IDEO today from my Introduction to Human-Computer Interaction class. IDEO is a company that essentially focuses on redesigning existing products.
The most interesting aspect of their work is their approach to the process of redesigning. From Needfinding, Ideation to mock-ups and then final solution, they encourage wild ideas, rapid iteration, and raw contextual inquiry where all team members actually go out and how people do things to understand the breakpoints.
Reflecting on their methods, I feel like this is arguably one of the most important things to know for startup founders to create solutions that matter and not just sound important.

| 8 | Tried tteokbokki today.
Awesome dish. Has some chicken, a few small rice cakes, bits of onion, and all of that is simmered in red and slightly spicy chilli sauce (you can adjust the spiciness).
If you ever happen to be in a korean restaurant and want to show off your knack for korean cuisine, go with this one (ramen is too old and mainstream atp).
Perhaps with a bit of bread on the side, it would be even better, but that's my uzbek taste buds speaking.
Anyway, definitely give this a shot. | 1 309 |

| 15 | Finals week is over, and we all made it through unscathed (almost).
While I'm still recovering from my "worst ever week for my health", I would want to reflect on my first year here at KAIST. However, I feel like there are many stories to tell and many insights to share, but I would like to know what you'd want to hear about. Leave your requests here. | 1 160 |

| 18 | On tactfullness (a.k.a. common sense)
The more I talk to people from different backgrounds and origins, the more I realize the importance of "thinking before you speak."
If we think about it, it's an incredibly fundamental concept that we are taught very early in life. However, the more people you see the more you can realize how undeveloped many people's tact is.
The problem is humans have and will always have certain fundamental differences, and our ability to approach these nuances with care shows our degree of self-worth, -respect, and -understanding.
I believe that most arguments and petty discords happen mainly owing to the deficiency of this exact trait among the counterparts, and arguments are fundamentally impractical, that is to say they don't lead anywhere but emotional complications.
Essentially, if common sense would really be common, people would live a healthier and more fulfilling lives. | 985 |
| 19 | Sparks.
Some of you who have been following this page for some time know that I have a small website that I use to catalogue my thoughts, projects, a bit of bio, books that caught my attention, and various lists of things I found useful to save.
Among all of these sections, the one that I feel most appealed to is Sparks - spontaneous realizations/musings that can't be left unsaved.
Some time in February I wrote a spark on my penchant for austerity. It was to say that a man doesn't need a lot to live a fulfilling life, and, in fact, the fewer and simpler the things one has, the easier it is for them to focus on something that matters. Lately, it feels like I've been drawing farther and farther from this idea. Not in a sense that I'm living a more lavish life - in fact I'm not - but more in a way that there is more craving for things that don't contribute to any helpful end: impulsive purchase decisions, rash trips, bad planning, and what not. So, this spark has been a good way to realign my principles. | 1 060 |
