Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has unveiled India’s first two genome-edited rice varieties, developed by ICAR in New Delhi. These newly introduced varieties are expected to lower production costs while significantly boosting rice yield in the country. India’s pioneering genome-edited rice varieties aim to make rice farming more cost-effective and productive nationwide.

India becomes the first nation globally to develop genome-edited rice varieties 🌿 Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has officially introduced two genome-edited rice varieties, which were developed by ICAR in New Delhi. 🌿 The first variety, named DRR Dhan 100 Kamala, is derived from Samba Mahsuri. It matures 15 to 20 days earlier than usual and provides a 25% increase in yield. 🌿 The second variety, Pusa DST Rice 1, is resistant to both salinity and alkalinity, producing 30% higher yields under saline conditions.
