Picnic. You’ve probably seen its Amsterdam-based tech openings pop up in this channel many times. Last year, we also published a detailed introduction to Picnic in our Substack newsletter, The Global Move. Our founder got a chance to interview Picnic’s CTO, Daniel. It was a really interesting conversation, and we turned it into a Substack post to share it with you. It ended up being a detailed look at how AI is actually changing a 400-person engineering organization. Not just how engineers write code, but how teams work, what they build, how they experiment, and even how Picnic hires. The conversation covers why producing more code and shipping more releases doesn’t necessarily create more value, where the engineering bottleneck moves when implementation becomes much easier, and what a Product Engineer looks like in this new environment. Andrew also spoke with Picnic’s recruiting team about the hiring side of things: what they look for in engineers today, how they read resumes, whether GitHub and cover letters still matter, and what they actually want to see when a candidate says they’re using AI. So quite a packed piece and well worth a read. Check out the interview here 👇 https://relocateme.substack.com/p/we-are-hiring-engineers-because-of

Last week, we shared the story of The Global Move subscriber who recently relocated to Estonia for an iOS Engineer role at Bolt. He kindly agreed to share the resume that helped him get there. In our new Substack post, our founder, Andrew, did a practical review of that resume: - what he thinks Ameya did well (from the perspective of someone who’s been in tech recruitment & talent relocation for over a decade) - what he’d improve - what you can learn from it and use in your own resume So you get to see a real resume that helped someone land a job abroad, rather than another polished template created specifically for a resume guide. If you’re applying for tech jobs abroad right now, it’s well worth a read. Here’s the link 👇 https://relocateme.substack.com/p/the-resume-that-helped-an-ios-engineer

From India 🇮🇳 to Estonia 🇪🇪 Andrew, our founder, got the chance to talk with Ameya, a subscriber to our Substack The Global Move, who recently relocated to Tallinn for a Senior iOS Engineer role at Bolt. His path between those two points - India and Estonia - wasn’t particularly straightforward. In the interview, Ameya shared what his job search actually looked like, what worked and what didn’t, how he approached resumes and cover letters, how he prepared for interviews, how Estonia ended up on his radar, and a lot more in between. Check it out here 👇 https://relocateme.substack.com/p/from-india-to-estonia-ameyas-job It’s an honest and practical look at what it takes to land a job abroad in 2026, with many useful insights for anyone trying to make a similar move.

Internal mobility. One of the relocation pathways worth keeping in mind in 2026. It’s more of a long-term play, but still a viable one. By internal mobility, we mean moving within a company to a different position in a different country. Of course, not every multinational company is a good fit for this path. Having offices around the world doesn’t necessarily mean employees actually move between them. But there are definitely companies where this happens: EPAM Systems, JetBrains, Amazon, Catawiki... just to name a few. In our latest piece for The Global Move, we explain how to figure out whether a company is a good “candidate” for an international transfer - before you join. We also cover the L-1 route to the U.S. and the EU’s Intra-Corporate Transfers framework. So, if relocating abroad is part of your longer-term career plan, do have a read. It might make you look at your relocation strategy a little differently. Here’s the link for quick access 👇 https://relocateme.substack.com/p/internal-mobility-as-an-alternative

Last week, we shared with you an article by our founder about how the relocation game in tech has changed. That piece ended up on the front page of Hacker News and got 200K+ views on Reddit. And it naturally led to the next question: If today’s relocation market works differently, how should you actually search for a job abroad? That’s probably the question Andrew received most often after publishing the article. Here’s the answer:
I don’t think there’s one perfect website that solves the problem. If there were, I’d simply send everyone there. Instead, I think relocation today is much more about building the right search strategy than finding another job board. Over the years, I’ve seen people relocate in many different ways, and that’s perhaps the biggest lesson I’ve learned: there isn’t one path. If I were starting my relocation journey today, this is exactly how I’d approach it 👇

As part of our effort to share useful tools and resources for relocation, we’d like to highlight Manifest. Manifest is an immigration law firm specializing in U.S. employment-based visas, including O-1, L-1, EB-1, and National Interest Waivers (NIW). What makes them different is their process. They don’t hand your case off to a paralegal. Instead, you’re matched with an experienced attorney based on your specific case, receive dedicated 1:1 support, and can track your case every step of the way through an online portal. And, of course, their track record: thousands of visas and green cards successfully obtained for clients. If you’re planning a move to the United States for work, they’re well worth considering. When it comes to relocating abroad for work, most people immediately think of employer-sponsored visas. But there’s another, often overlooked route: talent visas. One of the biggest differences from a traditional work visa is that a talent visa often doesn’t require you to have a job offer. And unlike many digital nomad visas, eligibility is usually based on your professional achievements rather than meeting an ongoing minimum monthly income requirement. We put together a new post on our Substack, The Global Move, covering some of the strongest talent visa options, including: • O-1 Visa (🇺🇸) • Global Talent Visa (🇬🇧) • "Carte Talent" (🇫🇷) • National Innovation Visa (🇦🇺) • and several others. Well worth a read if you want to be aware of the different relocation pathways available. Here’s the link 👇 https://relocateme.substack.com/p/talent-visas-in-2026-a-relocation

“Why do you want to relocate?” It’s one of the most common interview questions international job seekers get, and one where your answer can quietly hurt your chances of moving forward. Many candidates answer it by talking almost exclusively about wanting to move abroad, seeking a better quality of life, higher salaries, and the like. Here’s the problem: when that’s your entire answer, you unintentionally shift the focus away from the one thing the recruiter actually wants to hear about: the company. By the time you’re sitting in that interview, they already know you want to relocate. What they really want to hear is that you’re genuinely excited about joining their team. In my latest article for The Global Move, I explain: - why focusing so much on the idea of relocating during interviews can work against you; - what employers actually want to hear instead; and - how to approach relocation questions the right way, with examples of weak and strong answers. I hope it comes in handy for those of you who are currently looking for a tech job abroad. Check out the article here 👇 https://relocateme.substack.com/p/a-mistake-to-avoid-during-relocation

Just published an updated guide to digital nomad visas available in 2026. Today, more than 50 countries offer some form of digital nomad visa, and new programs keep appearing. Some require relatively modest income, while others have thresholds that put them out of reach for many people. Some are designed for a short stay, while others can lead to long-term residence. We originally published a similar guide in 2025, but a lot has changed since then. Income requirements have been updated, several new programs have launched, and a few older ones have quietly disappeared. The updated guide groups options by region and includes the specific visa name, minimum income requirement, duration, and an official government source for every option, so you can verify the latest requirements at any time. The list is now live on our Substack, The Global Move. Check it out here 👇 https://relocateme.substack.com/p/digital-nomad-visas-in-2026-a-world #DigitalNomadVisa #IndependentRelocation

Do cover letters still matter in 2026? Our answer: Yes, but only if you write them well. Otherwise, it's a waste of time. To give you an example, one of the subscribers to our Substack newsletter, The Global Move, recently wrote a cover letter that opened the door for him at a Berlin-based tech company while applying from abroad. He kindly gave us permission to share that cover letter publicly, so we could break down what made it effective and share practical advice other job seekers can use when writing their own. You can find the cover letter and our thoughts on why it worked in this new article 👇 https://relocateme.substack.com/p/how-to-write-a-cover-letter-in-2026 #CoverLetters #JobSearchAdvice
