| 15 | *📊 Updated Market View*
Four days ago, I mentioned that 23,650–23,850 was an important support/base zone for NIFTY with a possibility of a small false breakdown. The market respected that view almost perfectly, *taking support around 23,600 - 23,650 and bouncing nearly 400 points within 2 3 trading sessions.*
*However, the character of the market is now changing.*
While NIFTY is holding up relatively well, largely because of strength in a few heavyweight stocks especially IT the *broader market is showing clear signs of weakness.*
The biggest observation recently in earnings season is the *rise in post-result accidents. Stocks are falling 5–10% (or even more)* despite only marginal misses versus expectations or slightly cautious management commentary. This usually indicates that institutional investors are using earnings volumes to reduce positions, rather than reacting purely to quarterly numbers.
Historically, *Q1 earnings season is one of the best opportunities for PMS, Mutual Funds, and AIF managers to reshuffle portfolios.* The rally from April to July gives them a chance to exit weaker ideas at better prices and rotate capital into higher-conviction names. Because of this, selling pressure can continue over the next 2–3 weeks, irrespective of whether results are "okay."
This doesn't mean everything looks negative. There will still be winners. But I believe *stock selection will become extremely important.* Instead of a broad-based rally, we may see only 2 out of every 10 stocks outperform, while many others struggle despite reasonable results.
At the index level, large caps have not participated meaningfully yet, which could keep NIFTY relatively stable in the 23,500 - 24,500 range. The broader market, however, may continue to witness higher volatility and selective corrections.
*Plan of Action*
*Reduce leverage.* This is not the time to be aggressively leveraged.
*Avoid carrying large long positions into results* , unless you have very high conviction.
*Review your portfolio carefully.* Trim or exit stocks where governance is questionable, earnings visibility is weak, or business quality is average.
*Focus on quality* businesses with strong earnings visibility, healthy balance sheets, and capable management.
*Raise some cash over the next week* . Having liquidity will help capitalize on better opportunities if broader market corrections deepen.
My approach remains unchanged:
Stay selective, prioritize quality over quantity, and let earnings decide where capital should be deployed. In this phase, preserving capital is as important as generating returns. | 595 |
