Imām Muqbil’s Praise for Shaykh Yaḥyā al-Ḥajūrī and Shaykh Salīm al-Hilālī Imām Muqbil—may Allāh have mercy on him—said:

«وأحسن ما ينفعكم بإذن الله تعالى هو استقدام العلماء المبرزين مثل أخينا في الله (سليم الهلالي) … ومثل الشيخ الفاضل الذي ينوب عني في التدريس إذا مرضت أو إذا غبت أو كثرت علي الدروس الشيخ (يحيى بن علي الحجوري) حفظه الله تعالى.»

Who Will Succeed the Scholars? Imām Muqbil—may Allāh have mercy on him—said:

إِذَا مَاتَ عُلَمَاؤُنَا، مَنْ يَخْلُفُهُمْ يَا إِخْوَانُ؟ أَيَخْلُفُهُمْ أَصْحَابُ التَّمْثِيلِيَّاتِ؟ أَيَخْلُفُهُمْ أَصْحَابُ السِّينَمَا؟ أَيَخْلُفُهُمُ الْمُبْتَدِعَةُ الشِّيعَةُ الرَّافِضَةُ؟ أَيَخْلُفُهُمُ الصُّوفِيَّةُ؟ مَنْ يَخْلُفُهُمْ؟ فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ فِي هَذَا الدِّينِ. يَا أُمَّةَ مُحَمَّدٍ، اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ فِي هَذَا الدِّينِ، وَاحْرِصُوا عَلَى تَعَلُّمِ الْعِلْمِ النَّافِعِ.

If our ʿulamāʾ die, who will succeed them, brothers?! Will the actors succeed them? Will the cinema goers succeed them? Will the mubtadiʿah (heretics) – the Shīʿah, the Rāfiḍah – succeed them? Will the Ṣ‌ūfīyyah succeed them? Who will succeed them? Fear Allāh regarding this Dīn! Ummah of Muḥammad! A Challenge to Those Who Claim Shaykh Yaḥyā “Stole” the Seat of Dammāj The preceding audio presents a clear summary of the extraordinary standing of Shaykh Yaḥyā al-Ḥajūrī—may Allāh preserve him—with his Shaykh, Imām Muqbil ibn Hādī al-Wādiʿī—may Allāh have mercy upon him. The challenge is simple: Bring forward a single student of Imām Muqbil whom he praised, relied upon and entrusted as extensively as Shaykh Yaḥyā. Imām Muqbil: — Described him as a trustworthy adviser. — Instructed the students not to accept his stepping down from the teaching chair. — Stated that he deputised for him whenever he was absent. — Entrusted him with his markaz and its students. — Referred questions and scholarly matters to him. — Approved numerous written fatāwā authored by him. — Described him as a muḥaddith and faqīh. — Praised his profound knowledge of ḥadīth and fiqh. — Praised his strength in Tawḥīd. — Praised his meticulous verification, piety, asceticism, cautiousness, fear of Allāh and firmness upon the truth. — Described his writings as containing benefits worthy of travelling for. — Praised some of his works as complete and comprehensive treatments of their subjects. — Stated that Shaykh Yaḥyā’s treatment of a particular chapter surpassed that of Ibn Ḥajar in Fatḥ al-Bārī. — Read Shaykh Yaḥyā’s works in order to benefit from them. — Incorporated Shaykh Yaḥyā’s observations and scholarly benefits into his own books. — Attributed Shaykh Yaḥyā’s scholarly opening to his adherence to the Book of Allāh and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ. — Identified him as the most knowledgeable person in Yemen to whom the brothers should refer. After all of this, where is the evidence that Shaykh Yaḥyā “stole” the seat of Dammāj? Did he steal a teaching chair when Imām Muqbil explicitly instructed the students not to accept his stepping down from it? Did he seize a markaz when its founder had already entrusted him with it and appointed him to deputise in his absence? Did he impose himself upon the people when Imām Muqbil himself directed them to him as their scholarly reference? Did he elevate himself when his own Shaykh praised his works as worthy of travelling for, benefited from his research and compared part of his work favourably to that of Ibn Ḥajar? These claims do not merely lack evidence. They directly oppose the written introductions, recorded testimonies, practical conduct and final advice of Imām Muqbil. Whoever claims that Shaykh Yaḥyā was not Imām Muqbil’s foremost student, or that he unlawfully seized the seat of Dammāj, should answer these evidences one by one. Not with rumours. Not with claims. Not with lies. With evidence.
