Advice From 22 Year Old It's 1:37 The coldness woke Me up from sleep Perfect time to Think deep In my 22 years I understood some Things One life is too short To hold onto pain Two Nothing can stop What God has ordained Three If we don't know How to handle our emotions By them we will be enslaved Four We haven't lived If we didn't love And forgived So why we stay comfortable In places we don't belong? We spend more time in darkness As if it doesn't feel wrong As if these life given to us is long Darling, You were made for bigger things It's okay if sadness is what you feel But don't stay there Someone once said "You matter" I hope you believe it Because you do matter And don't be scared if You don't fit in Don't run away if You make a bad decision Learn from your mistakes Don't waste time on what-ifs Don't let your ego ruin good things Learn to let go If it is meant for you It will find you And about others don't be too quick to assume Everyone is fighting their own battles Mostly it had nothing to do with you Love passionately Unconditionally Forgive and without excuse Learn to say sorry Be grateful for what you have Because you didn't know What it means to starve Believe in yourself And also remember You matter -Hermela

Koleka Putuma is a Cape Town-based performance poet whose poetry centres around her identity as a black woman in South Africa — a country with a long history of spoken word performance being used as a tool to reach social goals. Putuma continues this tradition through her work, facilitating writing and dialogue workshops at schools, community projects & interfaith programmes in the Cape Town area, plus supporting up and coming women artists through the theatre company she co-founded, Velvet Spine. “Silence is a thing for us black women,” she said. “The goal for me is to write myself into something, be it into existence. Just to talk.” She’s already won the PEN SA Student Writing Prize for her poem, Water, and has been named one of Africa’s top 10 poets. www.one.org

|የተመኟት| [በዜማ] አ....ት..ራ....ወጡ ከ...ትግል.. ውጡ ተዓ`ምሯን አድምጡ (ያገኟት... «አ...ሜን») |የተመኟት| [በዜማ] ሙት አታስታሙ በድን አትሳሙ መጥታለች ቁሙ ተዓምሯን ስሙ። (ያገኟት... «አ...ሜን») [[የተኛት]] |በሹክሹክታ| ከሽ... ኮሽ... ከሽ..ከሽ... ሿሿ... ሿሻ... ሻሻ ደረት ማንከሽከሻ ተንጋሎ እሚቆላ ቡናማ ገላዋ ባርያ ያደርገኛል፡ ጌትነትም ብሻ። ደረት ማንከሽከሻ... ቡናዋን ታቅፎ በእሳት ላንቃ መሃል፡ ግራ ቀኝ ይሰግራል ጠረኗ እየጤሰ፡ እንኳንስ ጎረቤት፥ መላዕክት ይጠራል ( ሚኻኤል ና ቡና ጠጣ!) ከከከሽ... ከከከሽ ከሰማይ ተልከሽ... በእኩለ ሌሊት... በተክሌ ዝማሜ ስንጋደድ ስትቆሚ... ስትንጋደጅ ቆሜ ከጉልበቴ ቀድሞ እያጠረኝ እድሜ ከምኔው ፃይ ወጣች? መንጋት "አፈር ድሜ!" ከሽሽ...ሻ... ከሸሽ...ሻ ደረት ማንከሽከሻ ቡናዋ እህል ውሃ... ነፍስ መመለሻ... ራብ ራብ ቢለኝ... ቢታጠፍ አንጀቴ አካሌ ጎጆዋ... ገላዋ ማጀቴ ብዬ ወደ እሳቷ ... እጄን መዘርጋቴ ከዛ መፈጀቴ... ይህች... የፍል ውሃ.. ይህች ትኩስ እህል ጣዕሟን አልደርስበት፡ መልኳም ይርቀኛል፡መፋጀቷን ባኽል?! ብረት ምጣድ ደረት ቡናዋን ታቅፎ በእሳት ላንቃ መሃል፡ ይተረማመሳል ጠረኗ እየጤሰ፥ ሰማይ ላይ ይደርሳል የስንት መ'ላክ ናላ፡ በአምሮት ይፈርሳል? ( ገብርኤል ና ቡና ጠጣ!) ብረት ምጣድ ደረት የሚጋፍ በወረት ቡና የመሰለ ሰማያዊ መና ያሳርር ጀመረ መቁላቱ ቀረና... እሳት መልክ ይሰራል ለቅጽበት ያዘሉት፡ ጀርባ ላይ ይቀራል ለጌጥ የተኳሉት ተነቅሶ ይኖራል ታዲያ ማን ይፈራል? ከፍሬሽ ተተፋሽ.. ያረረውን ደፋሁ ከማንከሽከሻዬ፡ እስክትወጪ ለፋሁ አጠፋሪስ ቡናሽ፡ ቀልቤን አቦነነው፡ አቅሌን ስቼ ጠፋሁ። አትውረጂ ልልሽ፡ ከየት ይምጣ ልሳን? ግርጅፉን ሰውዬ፡ ጡትሽ ያደርገኛል፡ አንድ ፍሬ ህፃን እያብረቀረቀ፡ ቆዳሽ ድንግዝግዙን፡ ሲያጠፋው አይቼ ቢቀላቀልብኝ፡ ቀድቼ ሰጠሁት፡ ተጣለ ያሉትን፡ መላዕክ ጠርቼ (ሳጥናኤል ና ቡና ጠጣ) ረካሁ ያጣሁትን ተካሁ ከሞት እስከፍቅር፡ ያለውን ርቀት፡ በከንፈሬ ለካሁ በስተገላሽ በኩል፡ ባንድ ሌት መላክም፡ ሰይጣንንም ነካሁ ምን ቀረ ከእንግዲህ? ምኞት ወዲያ ማዶ፡ እጣፈንታ ወዲህ ምን በጀን ከእንግዲህ? መላኩን ካወደው፡ ሰይጣኑን ከጠራ ከሌቱ ቡናችን፡ ትውስታ እንቁጠራ! ከማንከሽከሻው ላይ፡ ትዝታ እንቆንጥራ ልክ እንደዛች ሌሊት፥ ይች ዘልዛላ ህይወት፡ እድሜዋ ይጠ`ራ!
