In a future many of us won’t live to see, the word “Gaza” will cause necks to turn and eyes to shudder. Those who survive that strip of land, who were subject to it for decades, and their descendants will be honored the way early Muslims honored the veterans of battles where the survival of the Ummah was at stake. They’ll refuse such gestures out of their piety, but they’d be fully deserving of us to kiss their hands and honor them as those who knelt for nothing as they were losing everything.
