This is how people got duped into supporting the catastrophic war in Iraq. Unsubstantiated claims made by Zionists and neocons, boosted uncritically by their allies in the media (and now social media). Anyone who questions the narrative is accused of defending "the terrorists".

Many people ask "How do I learn X subject (be it Arabic grammar, fiqh, politics, or history)? How do I become better-informed? Which book(s) should I read?" This is the wrong question. Knowledge is a qualitative characteristic before it is a quantitative one. The bearer of this trait is characteristically distinguished by a level of acumen and intuition that is not commonly found in one who does not have this knowledge. This ability is then applied to various cases or fields of inquiry with which said branch of knowledge concerns itself, and the data that then results becomes the structure over the foundation that we have described. All of that jargon aside, how does one actually build this ability? 1. Learning the preambles and preliminary discussions of the subject, and attempting to understand the internal logic with which operations are carried out in this field of research. 2. Knowledge of the important works and scholars in the field, especially the early ones whose works or ideas were seminal. We can use Sibawayh as an example in the field of Arabic grammar, or, to be more cliche, Newton, and much after him Einstein in physics. 3. The history of those works and scholars and the chronological progression of the subject, along with the academic relationships between various works and scholars: Who studied under whom? Which books was written after which? Was the author aware of the book/idea preceding him or not? This allows one to see who has independent contributions and who is just regurgitating, as well as who may be influenced by whom in their independent conclusions, despite not being a simple imitator of previous scholarship. 4. Questions to drive the research, moving from one point to others of relevance (even if they may be relevant discussions outside the purview of the subject) at any opportunity. This makes the study an active exercise instead of a digestion of facts, and makes one see the subtle interconnectedness of knowledge and its different branches. This seems hard, but with a bit of exertion it becomes interesting, and unlocks the hidden curiosity that most of us have. On the flip-side, most reading lists on any given topic require the discipline of a Shaolin monk to get through properly without losing interest and/or becoming lazy in how meticulously the material is consumed. والله الموفق والمعين
