Prepare For The Storm
When I came to campus this year, my plan was simple: get a job before January and make 100k birr before I graduate.
I started the journey in October (Tikimt), working on some full-stack projects like a YouTube clone, a social media app, and later a business analytics + project management system (deployed).
During this time, I made it to the advanced interview stage twice… but couldn’t proceed because the jobs required onsite work. I was in Bahir Dar, and the jobs were in Addis Ababa.
These past few weeks, I saw the #200kBirr90DayChallenge by Cyber Guardians. It reminded me of the plan I made when I first came to campus… and honestly, I had already abandoned it.
Time is moving fast, and I wasn’t consistent enough to turn my dream into reality.
Then I thought… why not try again?
Better late than never.
At this point, I haven’t made a single penny from my web development skills. Sounds crazy, right? Planning to make 100k birr without even landing my first gig.
But what if I don’t make it?
Nothing happens. I lose nothing.
Instead, I become:
1 more consistent
2 more disciplined
3 a harder worker and
4 improve my technical skills (big win)
Even if I fail… I still win.
Here’s my plan to make 100k birr before graduation:
1 Reach out to local clients (hotels, cafés, restaurants, stores, and other businesses)
2 Use Upwork (I already have a verified account)
3 Post my projects on LinkedIn (even if they’re small) and apply actively
4 Reach out to tech companies and try to get hired
I’ll try every possible way to achieve this goal.
Since I’m a graduating student, there are also responsibilities I can’t ignore:
1 Classes
2 Final exams
3 Final year project
4 Exit exam
5 Events I should be part of as a GC student (these moments won’t come again—I have to enjoy them too)
Balancing all of this… that’s part of the challenge.
Daily reflection questions:
1 What’s my main focus today?
2 What’s currently blocking or slowing me down?
3 What did I learn today?
To be specific, there are 88 days left until graduation.
I’ll dedicate 80 days to this challenge and finish one week before graduation.
I’ll prioritize this challenge while still balancing my social life.
There’s nothing to lose.
Even if I fail, I’ll gain so much from the journey.
So… why not try it?
You should too 😉
Messing up… until I nail it.
