Natnael Getenew, a self-taught developer from Addis Ababa, has been named one of the winners of the AWS AIdeas global competition, selected from more than 10,000 submissions across 115 countries.
His platform, Ivy, is a compressed AI model (under 260MB) that runs on Android devices without an internet connection. It proactively calls students and delivers personalized lessons, quizzes, and flashcards through 21 AI-powered tools.
When connected, Ivy integrates with AWS cloud services; offline, it operates entirely on-device.
Chosen by an AWS expert panel for its strong technical execution and creative problem-solving, Natnaelโs project earned him a $10,000 cash prize along with $1,000 in AWS credits.
