Kothli? What’s that? Literally, a small bag or pouch 👝in Haryanvi but during Teej, kothli means much more. In Haryana and parts of North India, it is a festive bundle sent by a married woman’s maayka to her in-laws during Sawan, carrying ghevar, sweets, clothes, bangles and mehendi. But these aren't just gifts. They are material expressions of kinship, keeping the bond between a married daughter and her maayka alive through ritual and exchange. Happy Teej! 🌿 @socio_logs

India is still becoming. But before we could dream of what India should become, someone had to fight for the freedom to dream at all. Today, we remember them. Happy Independence Day. 🇮🇳

One of the most thought-provoking things I noticed at Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga was a sign outside a washroom. It read: "For Transgender (3rd Gender)." Especially at Lord Shiva's Jyotirlinga, the symbolism is striking. In Hindu philosophy, Ardhanarishvara, the union of Shiva and Shakti in one form reminds us that existence cannot always be confined to rigid gender binaries. Sociologically, this sign represents social inclusion through public infrastructure. From Ardhanarishvara to a "Third Gender" signboard, the journey is not from tradition to modernity, but from symbolism to social recognition.

Ever wondered... Do your friends have more friends than you do? 👀 Surprisingly, sociology says the answer is often yes. This is known as the Friendship Paradox, introduced by sociologist Scott L. "Plato's Ring of Gyges" is a thought experiment about the relationship between power, anonymity, and accountability. The ring makes its wearer invisible, 🫥 allowing them to act without fear of identification or punishment. Plato's question was simple, yet profound: " Are people" just" because they are truly virtuous, or because someone is always watching? " The Ring of Gyges remains one of the most influential ideas in ethics, sociology, and political philosophy.

🚩 Rath Yatra Special | Did You Know? The English word "juggernaut" actually comes from Jagannath. ▪️Centuries ago, European travellers witnessed the gigantic chariots of Lord Jagannath being pulled by thousands of devotees during the Rath Yatra. To them, it seemed like an irresistible, unstoppable force. Over time, they anglicized "Jagannath" into "Juggernaut."

📚 Sociology Connection: Anthony Giddens borrowed this very word to describe modernity as a juggernaut: a force created by humans that drives progress but can never be fully brought under our control.
