| 11 | Researchers in India say they have documented a giant coral colony near Kadmat Island in Lakshadweep, spread across an estimated 4,250 sq m.
The Pavona clavus formation, known locally as the “Potato Patch”, could be among the largest known living coral colonies recorded anywhere in the world.
Preliminary growth-rate estimates suggest the colony may be 700 to 1,800 years old, though researchers say this needs scientific dating. (sclerochronology or radiometric dating)
Sclerochronology is the study of physical, chemical, and structural variations in the hard parts (like shells, skeletons, and otoliths) of aquatic organisms. | 762 |

| 14 | In prelims 2026, the questions were lengthy, factual, and solving them required deep application of your knowledge.
Out of 15 questions in the Environment section, 8 were directly answerable from the content I had curated last year.
This means more than half the questions were within my prepared range, which is a positive indicator that the content taught at Sleepy Classes is on the right track.
The remaining 7 questions either touched on topics I hadn't covered completely or were factual.
For which I am working diligently this year. | 760 |
