3. Can you give information about how the program is taught?

🏛The program has two phases. Phase 1 is about developing general writing. Voice. Tone. Rhythm. Over four weeks, students learn how to escape borrowed templates, build fresh imagery, keep readers hooked from start to finish, and cut the empty density that trips up most newcomers. In the meantime, through office hours, each student receives personalized reading-list, paper suggestions, admissions strategy and many more - all meant to help them develop them develop a niche academic trajectory. Phase 2 shifts to college-essay writing. Personal Stamenets. Strong examples and weak ones. Close analysis of both. Drafting Sessions. Live Peer Reviews. Structures. Narratives. Supplemental Essays, which cover similar ground to the Personal Statement. In the meantime, office hours still continue. Homework: We believe in two things at Agora. Writing can be improved only through writing. So our students write Agora pages throughout the curriculum, regardless of the phase. But we also believe that writing itself is not enough. So the curriculum weaves in original intellectual input: short stories, punchy articles, crisp essays. Original input creates original output. 2. When is the perfect time to start writing a personal statement?

🏛 We, as team collectively, couldn't answer the question. We tried, but it is impossible. The answer is highly individual, and many variables come into play. Some have good writing, so they'd even manage with a month sparing. Some may need to start earlier, a couple months prior to the deadlines. It is not a question of when should I start, but a question of if I can start actively working on a PS draft. Writing an elite personal statement is not a part-time random Tuesday activity. You should be ready. Below are questions to ask yourself to be sure (Agora's subjective advice): • Does my writing follow "Kill Philosophy"? (Check Atlas to learn about Kill Philosophy) • Have I written enough Agora Pages to visualize all that happened to me, all that I think about, and all that is about me? (Reflections are essential in PS writing) • And does my current writing hit Agora's Revision Checklist? @agora_writing

Our club walk-and-talk has been successful. More than we anticipated. But we don't want to get ahead of ourselves. Quality has to be maintained. We'll get to the regions. 🏛Agora teaches writing. But writing well doesn’t come from - well - simply writing more. If you want to write something witty, you first need a strong input of knowledge and ideas so that original thinking can emerge. Earlier in the program, we tried solving this problem with lots of reading. While it worked for some students, others couldn’t handle the overwhelming rigor. So we searched for a different way to create intellectual stimulation. That’s how Walk & Talk was formed. When knowledgeable, like-minded peers gather together, they naturally begin discussing (say) current geopolitics, drawing parallels between past and present events, narrowing into niche interests, and exchanging ideas with accomplished guests who accompany them through the streets of Tashkent. The club grew to 450+ members. We invited 10+ guests from places like Microsoft and Meta. We hiked across the mountains of Tashkent. And some members got addicted (maybe a little too addicted). 🏛Sirojiddin (the first picture) explored Moore’s Law, a popular observation in the semiconductor industry that states transistor density (tiny devices that make modern electronics possible) doubles approximately every two years.

During Phase 1 classes, Sirojiddin worked through the Kill Philosophy: stripping away borrowed writing templates to develop a personal voice. He applied some of the kill rules to his field essay, though there is still room for improvement in that area. Meanwhile, through office hours, he has been diving deeper into electrical engineering. Moore’s Law may be a familiar concept among EE students, but not everyone can explain it effectively in essay form. As he receives more personalized assignments through office hours, he continues to narrow and refine his academic interest in Electrical Engineering.

- 🏛Aizhamal (the second picture) did her own small case study. She explored if there is any connection between the brain of a man and his political genius. Lenin was her subject.

She explored past brain studies that attempted to study Lenin's brain. The conclusin was profound. Lenin's genius wasn't biological. In fact, he suffered from serious health issues, including neurological problems later in life. The genius came from his rhetoric. His words had rewired the dopaminergic circuits of millions, workers in Moscow apartments, politicians in government chambers, and school students opening their textbooks.

- 🏛Jamshidbek (the third picture) is a big soccer fan. We don't know if he is a Bayern Munich fan, but he used The Reds as a lens to explore political economy and structural power.

In his essay, he argued that success in sports is not only shaped by talent or tactics, but also by geography, infrastructure, state policy, and economic concentration. When he came to Agora, Jamshidbek wasn't sure about his major. Currently, he is exploring and diving deeper into a few related academic interests. He is fascinated by the dynamics of structural power and economics. He's also writing Agora Pages to connect his personal interests (such as football) to his academic interests.

This is not everyone from the Tolkien Community. We have other equally good students. But they all have one thing in common: whatever their level, they all keep improving, learning, and writing. 🏛@agora_writing

🏛The Tolkien Community finished Phase 1 yesterday. The program runs in two phases. Phase 1 → building the writing itself: voice, rhythm, expression, tone, and going deeper into your own academic field through primary sources. Phase 2 → that writing meets the college essay: personal statements, supplementals, academic research, and summer program essays. In between, there's the Field Essay. Every Agora student writes a single intellectual essay on a specific problem in their intended major. 600 to 900 words. One week deadline. The assignment forces them to pick something narrow they've been exploring over the past month and test their newly learned writing rules in practice. The Tolkien Community is ready for Phase 2. 🏛CUHK. World #32. Full tuition.🏛 Shynbergen joined the online Pushkin Community last autumn. When he came, he thought the idea did most of the work in college-essay writing. If the concept was strong enough, the writing would carry it. It didn't always. And he couldn't figure out why some essays landed and others didn't. But Agora would change his perspective and give him the right tools to be able to express himself. Below is what what he says about his transformation: "I liked that the classes were structured for deep conversations and actual questioning rather than just listening. I noticed my writing was getting better when I started focusing on the delivery. I realized that even a rough idea can look smart if you use the right sentences to get it across. One thing I appreciated was the balance. There was a lot of homework, but it wasn't so overwhelming that I had to give up the little sleep I was getting while managing university apps, work, and studying. To me, writing is like drawing on a canvas. You use the language like a tool to influence the final picture. Before Agora, I had the ideas but didn't know how to build them. I learned something from @inkzyio in Agora. Socrates died insisting that real knowledge only lives in dialogue. He hated writing. Then Plato, his own student, went and built an Academy to write it all down. To me, that's the original sin of Western philosophy. Taking something that was meant to be a street fight and locking it inside an institution. The moment Plato made philosophy a "subject," people started worshipping texts instead of actually chasing truth. The modern university is just Plato's Academy on steroids. People who you can call "philosophers" writing papers nobody reads, arguing about each other's citations while the world burns. That's part of why Agora means what it does to me. Mentors make you practice. They sit you across from someone who disagrees and ask you to defend what you actually think. I saw it in class, at Agora Talks, on the Walk&Talks. With Husan, I worked out why I actually want to study economics and how it fits into my own story. Which was really helpful. Agora isn't the only reason for anything if I've done well, and honestly, it was never about success anyway. I suspect I got better at understanding how I think and present myself outwardly, while quietly building a genuine community of people who truly care on the inside. I'm convinced that Agora is building the sharpest pens in the region on the outside but is the best intellectual community on the inside So next time Husan asks for your Obsidian notes on Mark Twain, tell him you're Socrates.
