will come into force in January 2026 after ratification by 60 nations. 🔆It seeks to regulate biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction (BBNJ)—covering nearly two-thirds of the world’s oceans—through equitable benefit-sharing, conservation, and sustainable use of Marine Genetic Resources (MGRs). 🔆 It introduces mechanisms like Area-Based Management Tools (ABMTs), including Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), and mandates Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) for human activities impacting these areas.
