I am no stranger to the midnight cinema of bad dreams. Over the years, my subconscious has directed full-scale war epics, marooned me in gothic mansions with flickering chandeliers, and pitted me against creatures that looked like they had walked straight off a high-budget Hollywood set. I usually wake up from those with a racing pulse, sure, but mostly admiring the production value. Last night, however, my brain skipped the blockbuster CGI and went straight for psychological warfare. There were no zombies, no falling elevators, no shadowy figures lurking in the mist. Instead, I found myself sitting in the cramped, vinyl upholstered backseat of a battered auto rickshaw, hurtling through unfamiliar streets on the morning of a massive exam. Halfway through the journey, the cold, suffocating lightning bolt hit: I was completely unprepared. The formulas had vanished. The concepts were smoke. The panic was so visceral, so absurdly realistic, that actual tears welled up in my eyes as I clutched a notebook full of gibberish. To make matters worse, my driver appeared to have acquired his license through pure optimism. He took random turns with cheerful confidence, completely oblivious to where the exam centre actually was. In the waking world, salvation is a glowing blue line on Google Maps. In dream logic, mobile phones are just smooth bricks of useless plastic. Time was bleeding out. The clock was ticking toward failure. And the driver was humming a merry tune while driving in what seemed to be a very committed circle. Then, blessedly, my eyes snapped open. The ceiling of my bedroom was right where it belonged. The exam didn't exist today. I took a deep, shuddering breath, completely bathed in relief. Now, I consider myself a rational person. I don't read horoscopes, and I certainly don't subscribe to street corner superstitions. But an old folk belief suddenly tapped me on the shoulder: if you tell someone about a bad dream, it won't come true. So, consider this article an insurance policy. I am documenting the horror here purely to neutralize the cosmic threat. If the superstition holds any water, I have officially saved my future self from an unplanned catastrophe...

We speak different languages. You taught me yours, and I taught you mine. Somewhere between the words, the mistakes, the translations, and all the conversations in between, we learned how to understand each other. We met online when we were just kids, still in school, never imagining that something so small would stay with us for so long. We grew up, changed, and built our own lives. We were never close in the usual sense... we didn’t share every day, every secret, or every little detail. But we were always close enough. Close enough to be there through each other’s ups and downs. Close enough to notice when something wasn’t right. Close enough to disappear for months and still come back without ever feeling like strangers. And after all this time, the distance still hasn’t managed to make us distant. Thank you for the book. Not just for the gift itself, but for the thought behind it... for remembering me after all these years, and for sending something that feels like a small piece of the world you live in. Because of you, I know that a real connection can start behind a screen. That it can survive growing up, long silences, time, and thousands of miles. We may have started as strangers speaking different languages, but somewhere along the way, we built a language of our own. And after all these years, I still understand you. And I always will...

Sometimes, there comes a time in life when even the things we once enjoyed begin to feel a little tiring. Not because they have changed, perhaps, but because something within us has. I think I’m at one of those phases with Telegram and social media. I don’t know how long it will last, but for now, I feel like stepping away for a while. Sometimes, a little distance is all we need to clear our minds and hear ourselves again. So, I’ll get back after some time. Until then, take care of yourself, keep smiling, and don’t let the little things steal too much of your peace. See you around...

Today I was talking to someone and started singing, “Aankhein khuli ho ya ho band…” and she casually said, “I’ve never heard this song.” I stopped breathing for a second. Then I asked, “You haven’t watched Mohabbatein?” She said, “No.” NO?! At that moment, I realised we had fundamentally different definitions of culture, childhood and possibly civilization itself. I’m not saying I’m going to stop talking to her… but I am saying the friendship is currently under investigation. First Mohabbatein, then what?...

I want to know how many of you actually read my write ups, not the “one article a month” kind of reading. If you genuinely read what I write, just drop a comment here or send me a DM @thestranger0 . I’m curious to know how many of you actually do...
