w legacy

I hate how barbara gordon is often underestimated, when her legacy stands as one of the most impactful in the dc universe. she’s a natural born leader. without her, there wouldn’t be a bat family as we know it, nor would the birds of prey exist. as batgirl, she carved out her place in gotham on her own terms, without batman’s approval. she was no sidekick, not to anyone, and especially not to batman. batman asked her to join the team. he didn’t give her a mantle or a name, she made it herself. she was her own person. she became the bat family’s central nervous system, coordinating their missions. she’s the glue that holds them together, often the only one who can talk sense into all of them, dick, jason, tim, even bruce. she was a mother figure to cassandra before bruce even knew her. she was like a big sister to stephanie. she gave them the batgirl mantle, her mantle. she keeps them connected, grounded, and focused. she’s everyone’s emergency contact because she’s the one they trust most. the batgirl mantle didn’t define her, she defined it. that’s why she’s the one everyone thinks of when they hear the name batgirl, even though others have taken it. she’s the backbone that holds these teams together, whether in the field or behind the scenes. and without her, the bat-family would’ve split a thousand times.
