Who Were The First People To Establish The Mawlid (The Prophets birthday)?

“وقيل: إنه في القرن السادس بعض الملوك الجاهلين أراد أن يفعل مولدا للنبي صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم واحتفالا أعظم من مولد النصارى.”
“And it was said that in the sixth century, some ignorant rulers wanted to hold a celebration of the Prophet ﷺ and make it even greater than the Christians’ celebration of the birth of Christ.”

📌 A Powerful Method for Refuting Innovations in the Religion!
I strongly encourage everyone to watch the video above and pay close attention to this important advice from the Shaykh. It explains a powerful method by which a person can refute and dismantle any innovation introduced into the religion, by returning the matter back to what was known, understood and conveyed by the Companions
This is an important matter for every Muslim to understand, particularly in a time when many newly introduced matters are attributed to the religion without proof from the Qur’an, the Sunnah and the way of the Companions.
I ask Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, to make this beneficial for us, to grant us sincerity and sound understanding, and to make it a means of drawing closer to him and adhering firmly to the Sunnah.
🤲 May Allah unite the Muslims upon the truth, unite their hearts upon the Qur’an and Sunnah according to the understanding of the Companions, and guide those who have fallen into innovation back to the truth.
May Allah grant us the ability to distinguish truth from falsehood, hold firmly to the Sunnah, and die upon it.

How Do You Refute Any Innovation? Three Questions That Expose Its Falsehood!
Shaykh Abdurazzaq Al Badr
The Innovation of the Prophet’s Birthday (Mawlid)
Imam al-Shawkani, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:
“I have not, up until now, found any evidence proving its establishment from the Book [the Qur’an], nor the Sunnah, nor consensus, nor analogy, nor any form of deduction. Rather, the Muslims are unanimously agreed that it did not exist during the era of the best generations, nor during the generation that followed them, nor the generation that followed them.”

The Prophets Birthday: Between Love And Following
The celebration of the Prophet’s ﷺ birthday (Mawlid) is an innovated matter that was not known during the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ. It was not practised by his Companions رضي الله عنهم, nor by the Rightly Guided Caliphs, nor by the righteous Salaf, nor by any of the four Imams رحمهم الله.
Had celebrating the Prophet’s ﷺ birthday been from the acts of worship through which one draws closer to Allah, the Companions of the Messenger ﷺ would have been the first and most eager people to do so. They were the people who loved the Prophet ﷺ the most, knew his Sunnah best, and were the most eager to pursue every form of goodness.
Yet this celebration only became known centuries after the death of the Prophet ﷺ. It is therefore an innovated practice that the Messenger ﷺ did not legislate and which Allah did not grant permission for.
Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, says:
“Or do they have partners who have legislated for them in religion that which Allah has not permitted?”
[Ash-Shura 42:21]
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Sahih al-Bukhari 2697, Sahih Muslim 1718
Grade: Muttafaqun Alayhi
Agreed upon.
True love for the Messenger ﷺ is not demonstrated by introducing acts of worship and celebrations that he did not legislate. Rather, true love is demonstrated through following him, obeying him, and adhering to his guidance.
Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, says:
“Say: If you truly love Allah, then follow me; Allah will love you.”
Ali Imran 3:31]
So whoever truly loves the Messenger of Allah ﷺ should strive to follow his Sunnah, emulate his guidance, and give obedience and adherence to him precedence over customs and innovations.
Love is not merely a claim; its proof is obedience and following.
May Allah grant us sincere love for his Messenger ﷺ, enable us to follow his Sunnah and remain firm upon it, protect us from innovations and newly introduced matters, and cause us to live and die upon the Sunnah.

The Description of Salat Al-Istisqa (Prayer for Rain)
1. Al-Istisqa (Prayer for rain) means seeking water (rain) from Allah (the Most High) during drought and times of low rainfall, and it is a confirmed Sunnah.
2. It is prayed as 2 rak’aahs very similar to the Eid Prayer with no adhan or Iqamah. It is Sunnah to perform this prayer outside but if prayed inside the masjid this is still fine. You pronounce the takbeer 7 times in the first rak’aah including the Takberaat Al Ihram and then 5 times in the second rak’aah including the Takbeerat Al Ihram.
3. The Sunnah is to recite Surah Al Ala in the first rak’aah and surah Al Ghashiyah in the second rak’aah. However if the imam reads other Surah’s from the Qur’an then there is no problem with that.
4. Then the Khutbah is delivered, in which the people are encouraged to seek Allah’s forgiveness and repent to him.
5. During the Khutbah, the imam turns his cloak inside out, as an indication of hope that Allah will transform the state of drought into fertility and abundance.
Abdullah ibn Zayd reported: I saw the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, one day go out to prayer for rain. He turned his back to the people and faced the Qiblah and supplicated, then he turns his cloak inside out, then he prayed two cycles for us while reciting aloud.
Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 1025, Sahih Muslim 894
Grade: Muttafaqun Alayhi
6. He then supplicates while raising his hands, raising them extensively, as the Prophet ﷺ used to do. He faces the Qiblah, and the people also raise their hands and say Ameen to the supplication.
Anas reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would not raise his hands for any supplication except to pray for rain. He would raise them until we saw the skin of his armpits.
Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 3565, Sahih Muslim 895
Grade: Muttafaqun Alayhi
7. The authentic dua to say for Salatul Istisqa is…
“O Allah, send us rain. O Allah, send us rain. O
Allah, send us rain.”
Al Bukhari 1014 and Muslim 897
“O Allah, send us rain that brings relief; wholesome, abundant, beneficial and not harmful; immediate and not delayed.”
“O Allah, rescue us and relieve us. O Allah, rescue us and relieve us. O Allah, rescue us and relieve us.”
“O Allah, give rain to Your servants and Your livestock, spread Your mercy, and revive Your dead land.”
Hisn Al-Muslim), no. 63.
8. The prayer is then concluded with praise of Allah and salutations upon the Prophet ﷺ.
We ask Allah to send rain upon our lands, along with goodness and blessings, and to fill our hearts with faith and humility before him.

As we all know there has been a big heatwave and long drought that has affected majority of the UK in which outpouring rainfall have been extremely low and scarce, as a result of this many mosques and Islamic centres across the UK will be performing the rain prayer today after Dhuhr also known as Salatul Istisqa. It will also be performed at my local masjid today at 1:45pm straight after the Dhuhr prayer. I have prepared a step by step guide of how to perform the prayer along with its Sunan acts which can be found below.
How To Pray Salat Al-Kusuf (The Eclipse Prayer) - Step By Step Description!
Shaykh Sulayman Ar Ruhayli
🌑 WHEN THE SUN IS DARKENED — A REMINDER FROM ALLAH
The sun and the moon are not merely objects in the sky. They are from the signs of Allah.
Allah ﷻ says:
“And from his signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. Do not prostrate to the sun or to the moon, but prostrate to Allah, Who created them, if it is him you worship.”
Surah Fussilat 41:37
When an eclipse occurs, it is not something to treat merely as an astronomical spectacle, nor is it an occasion for entertainment and distraction. It is a sign from the signs of Allah, an opportunity for the heart to awaken.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Indeed, the sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse due to the death or life of anyone. So when you see that, then pray and supplicate until it is over.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 1043
How many signs do we see around us, yet remain heedless?
How many times does Allah ﷻ remind us of his power, his greatness and his ability, while our hearts remain occupied with the dunya?
Perhaps an eclipse that occurs during our lifetime should cause us to stop and reflect:
Who caused the sun to be darkened?
Who controls the heavens and the earth?
Who created the sun and the moon and subjected them to his command?
These are moments to return to Allah.
Return from heedlessness to remembrance.
Return from disobedience to obedience.
Return from negligence to repentance.
Return from being attached to the creation to being attached to the Creator.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would turn to Allah during an eclipse, he would pray, supplicate, remember Allah and seek his forgiveness.
So when you witness this sign tonight, do not allow yourself to simply watch it.
Let it remind you of the day when the sun will be wrapped up and the order of this world will come to an end.
Let it remind you that the one who causes the sun and moon to eclipse is the one before whom every one of us will eventually stand.
Take heed of the signs of Allah.
Perhaps this is the reminder your heart needed.
Turn back to Allah before you are returned to him.
May Allah make us from those who reflect upon his signs, remember him when they see them, repent from their sins, and hasten towards obedience. Ameen.

Al Mughirah Bin Shu’ba narrated narrated: "The sun eclipsed in the lifetime of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) on the day when (his son) Ibrahim died. So the people said that the sun had eclipsed because of the death of Ibrahim. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: “The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of the death or life (i.e. birth) of anyone. So when you see the eclipse pray and make dua to Allah."

Narrated Ibn Umar:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of the death or life (i.e. birth) of someone but they are two signs amongst the signs of Allah. So when you see them both offer the prayer."
