πTech Talk Friday's - Curious About How RESTful APIs Work? π€
Imagine RESTful APIs as the waiter in a bustling restaurant π½. You (the client) place your order (request), and the waiter (API) swiftly runs to the kitchen (server) to fetch your meal (data). Once itβs prepared, the waiter returns with your dish, ready for you to enjoy. The magic? Each request is independent and seamless β the waiter doesn't remember your previous order (stateless).
This is how RESTful APIs work: they bridge the gap between clients and servers, ensuring smooth communication and efficient data exchange across the web.
π How RESTful APIs Work
At its core, a RESTful API operates on HTTP methods like:
β
GET β Retrieves information π
β
POST β Sends new data π€
β
PUT β Updates existing data βοΈ
β
DELETE β Removes data π
Each action is separate, and the server remains stateless, meaning it doesnβt store previous requests. This design makes RESTful APIs incredibly scalable, adaptable, and easy to manage.
π Real-World Applications
Imagine you're building a University System API. With RESTful APIs, you could:
π GET all student records π§βπ
π POST new student information π
π PUT to update a student's details π
π DELETE a studentβs record if needed π«
These simple yet powerful interactions allow systems to function smoothly without unnecessary complexity, ensuring a seamless experience for both developers and users.
π₯ The Backbone of Modern Web Applications
RESTful APIs are integral to platforms like:
β
Educational systems β Managing courses, grades, and student data π
β
Social media apps β Handling user posts, likes, and comments π±
β
E-commerce platforms β Managing product inventories, transactions, and user profiles π³
Each API interaction acts as a building block in a web applicationβs architecture, making it scalable, efficient, and extensible.
π§ Why You Should Master RESTful APIs
Understanding RESTful APIs isnβt just a tech trendβitβs a vital skill for backend and full-stack development. APIs act as the invisible hands that connect different parts of a system, enabling real-time communication, scalability, and flexibility.
Whether you're dreaming of building a cloud-based solution or developing a mobile app, mastering RESTful APIs will elevate your development journey. ππ»

Ever wondered which frontend framework suits your project best? Letβs dive into the options and find out: If you're starting your journey in web development, frontend frameworks can help you build interactive, scalable, and efficient websites. But before jumping in, let's build a solid foundation! Before You Start with Frameworks Think of a framework as a supercharged toolkit that makes web development faster and easier. But without understanding the basics, it can feel overwhelming. Make sure you're comfortable with: β HTML β The structure of a webpage β CSS β The design and layout β JavaScript β The language that makes things interactive Once you understand these, frameworks help you work smarter by reducing repetitive coding and making applications more efficient. Letβs explore some popular ones!βοΈ React.js
The Building Blocks of Modern Web Apps React, developed by Facebook (Meta), is one of the most popular JavaScript frameworks. It helps developers break their website into reusable components, making code easier to manage. πΉ Why use React? Creates fast and interactive web apps Uses a component-based approach, making code reusable Large community support and a rich ecosystem π‘ Best for: Dynamic websites, dashboards, and scalable applicationsπ± Vue.js
The Easiest Framework for Beginners Vue.js is simple, flexible, and beginner-friendly. If React seems too complex, Vue is a great alternative. πΉ Why use Vue? Easy to learn with a simple structure Automatically updates UI when data changes (two-way binding) Works well for both small and large projects π‘ Best for: Beginners, small business websites, and quick projectsπ’ Angular
The Full-Powered Framework for Large Applications Angular, developed by Google, is a complete framework that includes everything: routing, form handling, and state management. πΉ Why use Angular? Uses TypeScript, which makes code more organized Best for enterprise-level applications Comes with built-in tools for large, structured projects π‘ Best for: Business applications, enterprise software, and large teamsβ‘οΈ Next.js
Making React Faster and More Powerful Next.js builds on React and adds server-side rendering (SSR), making web pages load faster and improving SEO. πΉ Why use Next.js? Helps with better SEO and faster page loads Perfect for dynamic websites like blogs and e-commerce Supports server-side and static rendering for better performance π‘ Best for: Websites that need speed, SEO, and scalabilityπ₯ Nuxt.js
The Vue Alternative to Next.js If Next.js is for React, then Nuxt.js is for Vue. It improves Vueβs flexibility and makes it more SEO-friendly and efficient. πΉ Why use Nuxt.js? Pre-built routing (less setup required) Improves website speed and SEO Great for server-side and static websites π‘ Best for: Vue developers who want better performance and SEOπ TypeScript
The Structured Upgrade to JavaScript TypeScript adds static typing and powerful tools to JavaScript, improving maintainability and making large applications more manageable. πΉ Why use TypeScript? Static typing reduces errors and improves refactoring Better organization with interfaces and types Enhanced tooling and developer experience π‘ Best for: Developers building large-scale applications who need scalability and fewer bugs.Which One Should You Choose? π€ Your choice depends on what you want to build: π± Just getting started? Vue.js is simple and easy to learn. π» Need a scalable app? React.js is a solid choice. π Working on a big project? Angular offers a full solution. π Want better SEO and speed? Next.js or Nuxt.js are the best options. π§ Want better structure? TypeScript is a great choice. The best way to learn is by building projects. Pick a framework, create something small, and see what works for you. Stay tuned! Weβll continue sharing valuable insights, tips, and ideas to help you grow in the tech field. π Happy coding, Faculty of Computing Association

π’ Announcement: DSA Class Selection Results
A few days ago, we asked students to fill out a registration form to be part of Data Structures and Algorithms class. Due to the limited number of seats available, we had to make a careful selection based on specific criteria. After thorough consideration, we are pleased to announce that 20 students have been selected to join the class.
π Congratulations to all the students who made it! π
We have attached the list of the selected students for your reference. If your name is on the list, rest assured that we will be reaching out to you with further details. The class is set to begin next week, so stay prepared and excited for an enriching learning experience!
Additionally, please remember that certificates of completion will only be awarded to those who attend the full course. Consistent participation and commitment are essential to make the most out of this opportunity.
Hello everyone,
We hope you are all doing well. Regarding the EthioDen training program, we initially asked you to submit a project. However, we have recently received feedback from some students expressing concerns that the assigned project may not be beginner friendly for second year students. We truly appreciate your input and understand that it is important to ensure that everyone has a fair opportunity to participate and complete the project successfully.
In response to this concern, we are currently in discussions with the company to reassess this issue and explore possible adjustments that will make it more accessible to all participants. While we work on finding the best solution, we want to give you additional time to complete your project . The new deadline for project submission is February 27, 2025. We encourage you to use this additional time wisely to work on your project and ensure that you submit a well prepared project. Please stay tuned for further updates
