Humpback Whale

Humpback whales are large members of the Baleen whale family found in every ocean across the world. Instead of teeth, they have baleens which enable them to filter feed vast amounts of krill, plankton, and small fish. Their life cycle consists of long migrations from the equator to the poles, and they've been recorded to live to be over ninety years old. Alongside their vocalizations which can be heard from miles away, humpback whales are known for their breaching behavior, which is used to communicate, remove parasites, hunt, and play. Once nearly hunted to extinction, their population has since recovered to a population size estimated to be over 80,000.
