Dictatorial Leadership: A cult of personality forms around a single charismatic leader who claims to uniquely embody the will of the people.
Militarism and Violence: The embrace of physical force, war, and redemptive violence to achieve political goals and eliminate internal "enemies" or scapegoats.
Controlled Capitalism: Private businesses remain privately owned but are subordinated to state priorities through coordination, direction, or coercion.
Suppression of Dissent: Media, culture, and social institutions are censored or entirely absorbed by the state, while political opposition is banned.
Since Trump's re-election, the administration has displayed several characteristics that political scientists commonly associate with fascism, including the concentration of executive power, aggressive nationalism, the portrayal of political opponents as internal enemies, expanded use of federal security powers, and the framing of dissent as a national security threat.
If a government increasingly exhibits characteristics associated with fascism, then a movement explicitly organized around opposing fascism should not be expected to remain merely another political movement. It becomes a natural target of that government.
