*WAEC FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING* *NUMBER THREE* (3) (i) Business Entity Concept: The Business Entity Concept states that the business is treated as a separate entity from its owner or owners. The financial transactions of the business are recorded independently of the personal transactions of the proprietor. Therefore, only transactions relating to the business are included in the financial statements. (ii) Going Concern Concept: The Going Concern Concept assumes that the business will continue to operate for the foreseeable future and will not be liquidated or cease operations soon. Based on this assumption, assets are valued at cost less depreciation rather than their immediate sale value, and long-term liabilities are recognized accordingly. (iii) Realization Concept: The Realization Concept provides that revenue is recognized only when it has been earned and realized. This usually occurs when goods have been delivered, or services have been rendered to customers, regardless of whether cash has been received. It prevents the recognition of anticipated or unrealized profits. (iv) Materiality Concept: The Materiality Concept states that only information and transactions that are significant enough to influence the decisions of users of financial statements should be disclosed separately. Items of little value or importance may be treated in a simpler manner to avoid unnecessary detail in the accounts. (v) Consistency Concept: The Consistency Concept requires that the same accounting methods, principles, and procedures should be applied from one accounting period to another. This ensures comparability of financial statements over time and enables users to make meaningful assessments of the business's performance and financial position. If any change is made, it must be clearly disclosed and justified.
