I'm thinking... On giving yourself grace
There are two types of grace that you give yourself. The first one is the "it's ok" grace. The pat you give yourself when you've done a good job, even if it doesn't satisfy your perfectionism. The treat you buy yourself after failing because hey, failure happens, it's ok. There is that grace. And then there's the "I did mess up" grace you give yourself. I've realized, saying things as they are usually is more graceful to yourself than excusing yourself, covering things up, avoiding things. Admitting things might be painful, but it's actually a form of respecting and giving yourself grace, because then, you're giving yourself space to analyze things, feel things, and pass through them. This relates to a concept I heard of from a reel (look at me, quoting reels) a while back, which is that there are two types of failures. The first one, I forgot the name, is the type of failure that happens because failing happens. The type that happens because you can't be a master on your first try, the type that happens even when you've tried your best. I feel like the first type of grace happens here, which is saying "ok, I did fail, but it's alright, we ball". The second type of failure, the operational (I think was what was named) failure, is what happens when you don't give something your best shot. The failure you feel when you go against your values, when you make decisions while your gut instinct is telling you not to, when you don't deliver as well as you could easily have. Again, I think the second type of grace happens here, because these failures are usually hard to acknowledge, no? Saying "oh, this happened because I procrastinated" or "oh, I messed up because I made decisions against my better judgement" feels, initially, worse than saying "oh no, someone else messed up" or "oh, I did fail, it's alright, we ball", when actually, saying the truth to yourself is the biggest favor you could do for yourself.
(yes, I'm speaking from experience)

There you go, lol So I'm going to wait for the next 24 hours for the questions to compile and I'll answer them then. And again, been a while since I've talked about what I've been up to (except well... transportation shenanigans) so depending on the questions, I'll answer them as well. Night :))

Actually, I'm going to let this run for the next 24 hours and answer them in bulk after 24 hours, feels like it's been a while. + been a while since I've talked about "what I do" in terms of life outside academics, if the questions are good, probably would focus on that Link

Another one I've been thinking about:
Hmm.... There is something bugging about relaxing, pursuing hobbies, having a social life mnamn when you haven't had the essentials sorted out. The "work before rest" mindset basically, but for some people like me, the work never ends. Endewm it keeps adding up. I've had quite some instances when I was like "time to lock in, time to lock in" and the lock in just kept continuing and next thing I found out was someone dead inside starting at me in the mirror. But still, the bug never stops. For me, what keeps me anchored is three things: - older people I've met whom I've seen balance things, take them slow, and still thrive - my, I guess, relative clarity (from my past self) on where I'm going, on not comparing myself with others, on the difference between taking things slow and stagnation, and on the difference between hustling and running mindlessly. Still a lot of work left here, quite a lot actually, but still... - someone I met last year whose passing away made me realize, you really can have your life taken away from you at any moment. Her passing away made me confront death fully for the first time, especially considering how young she was. She also had a very full life, probably one of the fullest from people I know, and it's one of the things that serve me as inspiration. Make of this what you will?

Brain dump moment:
Now that I've spent quite some time in the space and could say I'm somewhat experienced at it, networking, the way it's normally posed, gives me the ick. I get the benefits, I've been there, but I've realized that genuine relationships are much much better than networking for network's sake. Personally, the interactions I could say have been nice and have been beneficial in the longer term (even if it's not something sustained or you know, even if it's the type you call each other up only when you need something and not really to check up on each other) have been the ones I approached from the point of genuine interest and not "oh, let me get their contact". There are some specific cases when networking for network's sake makes sense, say when you're starting out in a space and want some form of exposure or clients early on. But even then, the game is about relationships and finding people interesting, and not rotating through strangers hoping you'd find something. Debatable? Very much so. This isn't a complete thought so please, please offer up counterarguments or your perspectives, I'd really appreciate it :))
