This cannot be said any less explicitly without becoming scornfully disingenuous. Read Peter Cochrane’s ‘best we forget’ for objective historical proof of this from an author who was critical of it.

“Lest we forget” applies to what they sacrificed for, not just the sacrifice itself. This ANZAC Day, we should reflect on the direction of our nation, not to mourn passively but to honour our ancestors by preserving what they fought to defend.
