At the Jerusalem tophet, scholars believed that Moloch was a pagan deity to whom children were sacrificed. It is well-known that King Solomon did in fact pay tribute to Moloch and built altars for sacrificial rites. King Solomon, who is known for having “the wisdom of God,” kneels at the feet of an idol of Moloch, a pagan god who is depicted as a naked man sitting on an orb and holding the skull of an animal. One of King Solomon’s 700 wives and 300 concubines, instructs him to worship Moloch while pointing to the statue. King Solomon was the historical king of Israel.
Numerous civilizations worship Molech, also known as Moloch, Molek, or Minerva’s Owl, an ancient Near Eastern deity who is commonly depicted as an owl. The Canaanites, Carthaginians, Phoenicians, and Israelites were all devoted to offering human sacrifices, including young children and newborns, according to the Bible. In secret societies, the owl can be associated with the goddess Athena, who is a representation of esoteric wisdom. Moloch continues to be honored now by the elite of today in the same way that he was in ancient times. In modern society, it is still practiced by governments, religious groups, and businesses.
Biblical attestations
The word Moloch occurs eight times in the Masoretic Text, the standard Hebrew text of the Bible. Five of these are in Leviticus, with one in 1 Kings, one in 2 Kings and another in The Book of Jeremiah. Seven instances include the Hebrew definite article ha- ('the') or have a prepositional form indicating the presence of the definite article. All of these texts condemn Israelites who engage in practices associated with Moloch, and most associate Moloch with the use of children as offerings.
Leviticus repeatedly forbids the practice of offering children to Moloch:
And thou shalt not give any of thy seed to set them apart to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.

In 1 Kings, Solomon is portrayed as introducing the cult of Moloch to Jerusalem:
