Furthermore, as part of enabling ongoing collaboration, structures for joint platforms have been established to enhance communication and cooperation between state institutions and CSOs. These platforms are designed to facilitate timely discussions, enable collaborative monitoring of human rights issues, and support advocacy efforts on relevant topics. This collaborative approach ensures that both governmental and civil society voices are heard and can work together to better engage on human rights and governance in the Afar region.

Strengthening local and grassroots CSOs and regional state institutions to advance human rights and governance ***************************** CEHRO, in partnership with Welthungerhilfe (WHH), is implementing a project to strengthen CSOs and regional state institutions to advance human rights and governance in the Afar region. As a key component of this project, CEHRO has successfully facilitated a two-day capacity-building training workshop tailored specifically for regional government officials and representatives from local and grassroots CSOs. This training focused on human rights programming and was designed to equip participants with essential skills and knowledge. Topics covered included policy and process monitoring, as well as the integration of a Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA) into policies, laws, and decision-making processes.

CEHRO, in collaboration with Samuel Hall through the ICMPD, successfully conducted the LLEARN validation workshop on September 1, 2026, in Dessie, Ethiopia, bringing together existing stakeholders as well as new partners. The workshop discussions brought new perspectives and additional insights that further strengthened the City Brief and the proposed pilot project. Participants provided feedback, reflections, and recommendations to refine the City Brief and ensure that the proposed interventions are relevant and responsive to the local context. As an outcome of the validation process, a validated pilot project focused on documentation, with a specific focus on improving access to National ID for a number of identified IDPs, was agreed upon. The pilot aims to address documentation-related barriers faced by IDPs and support their access to National ID as an important step toward accessing services and exercising their rights.

The workshop provided a platform to present and discuss CEHRO’s engagement throughout the National Dialogue process, including its methodology and findings from the pre-national plenary phase and the national plenary phase. The discussions reflected on the progress of the process, key findings emerging from the observation, and issues requiring continued attention as the National Dialogue moves forward. Through its monitoring, observation and advocacy engagement, CEHRO continues to contribute to informed public dialogue and evidence-based advocacy on the Ethiopian National Dialogue Process, bringing findings and perspectives from its engagement into broader discussions with relevant stakeholders.

The Consortium of Ethiopian Human Rights Organizations (CEHRO) with funding from the German Government and technical support from GIZ, convened a High-Level Advocacy Workshop on the Ethiopian National Dialogue Process on August 27, 2026, in Addis Ababa. The event brought together representatives of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission, the House of Peoples’ Representatives, government institutions, civil society organizations, diplomatic missions, development partners, and other stakeholders.

The Consortium of Ethiopian Human Rights Organizations (CEHRO), in collaboration with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), and with a financial support from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, conducted a Validation Workshop on Durable Solutions Findings in Jigjiga on 12 August 2026. The workshop brought together regional and local government authorities, members of the Regional Durable Solutions Working Group, and representatives of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to review and validate the key findings and recommendations emerging from the durable solutions assessment. The discussions provided an important platform for stakeholders, particularly displacement-affected communities, to reflect on the findings, share their perspectives, and contribute to strengthening efforts towards durable, inclusive, and locally owned solutions to displacement in the Somali Region. This activity supports community participation and locally owned durable solutions for displacement-affected communities.

📍 Benishangul Gumuz   Following the CSO-Media CoP dialogue in Benishangul Gumuz, CoP members, comprising CSOs and media actors, organized a panel discussion in collaboration with regional media.   The panel focused on the post-election context, including electoral dispute resolution, civic participation, and pathways for peaceful and inclusive post-election transition. It brought together representatives from religious institutions, women and youth associations, political parties council, disability organizations, and the National Election Board of Ethiopia. Facilitated under the CEHRO and WHH-supported CoP platform, this initiative reflects the CoP’s growing ownership in advancing joint CSO–media engagement on governance and civic space issues.   The CSO-Media CoP in Benishangul Gumuz, coordinated by CEHRO in partnership with WHH, with the financial support of the EU, serves as a platform bringing together CSOs and media actors to strengthen collaboration on civic engagement and policy dialogue.

📢 Project Launch Event Successfully Held The Consortium of Ethiopian Human Rights Organizations (CEHRO), in collaboration with Welthungerhilfe (WHH), officially launched a new project titled “Strengthening the Commitment of Civil Society Organizations to Human Rights and Democracy in Afar and Tigray, Ethiopia” in Addis Ababa.   The event brought together representatives from the Afar and Tigray regions, federal government institutions, development partners, CSOs, and other key stakeholders. The program featured a welcome and a keynote speech, a presentation on the project's objectives and expected outcomes, and an engaging panel discussion on strengthening collaboration between CSOs and Regional State Institutions to advance human rights and democratic governance.   The panel discussion included representatives from the Afar and Tigray regions who shared insights on opportunities and challenges for enhancing civic engagement and promoting human rights at the regional level.
