From a distance
I picture myself once in a while
Smiling at your jokes,
Warmth swarming through my heart,
Then realizing how lucky I am.
Other times, I worry with you,
Hearing your daily concerns,
Then aching in my soul,
Wondering how to ease your pain.
But most of the time,
I just dream of you—
My unreachable quest.
The day just passes by
As I stare at you from a distance,
Creating a picture
Of what it would be like
To have you as my soulmate.

Moving on with you
Memories are dangerous
For those who wish to contain them.
Wisely, they must be discarded,
For they possess the power
To drown a person’s life.
Antidotes aren’t available
To those who have been stung.
Warmth will not soothe that soul,
Since they have been out in the cold
For far too long.
No fire will melt the glacier
They have been in.
I will not try
To make myself forget you,
But I will not destroy
Myself thinking about you.
I will help myself be okay
With you staying with me,
Even as I move on,
With you living in my dreams.

Out of My League
Would I have a chance,
If I were from her world?
If I fit her careful standards,
Her quiet sophistication?
Would she rest in my arms,
If I were handsome,
Charismatic enough,
To be noticed?
She deserves the world,
A world that doesn’t bend,
Toward someone like me.
So I wander into dreams,
Where ogres love angels,
And fiction feels brave.
But morning comes,
And I remember,
She was never mine,
To reach.

"Knowing comes before loving to be considered as true love. If you ever encounter love before knowledge, check how you feel after coming to light about that person. Mostly love before knowledge ends as a small crush, timely lust or something like that."

Why?
Unlike other days, I got out of bed feeling very agitated for no reason—or so I presumed. Who was I kidding? I knew exactly the reason. After yesterday’s talk with my friend, I was feeling extremely irritated. I guess that feeling still hadn’t worn off. But since I had to attend Sunday’s sermon, I forced myself to get up and make myself presentable for the environment I was about to join.
When I got to church, our pastor was already praying before ministering today’s Word of God. I sat down and tried my best to immerse myself in the congregation. But without even giving me the chance to do that, the prayer ended.
“Hello, beloved people of God. How was your week?”
A wave of murmurs spread through the congregation as people responded.
“Today we will be reading from the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 24, verses 1 to 14. Follow along in your own Bible as I read. I will begin, in Jesus’ name… This is the Word of God…”
As the pastor read, I followed along but found myself stuck on verse 12:
“And the love of the great body of people will grow cold because of the multiplied lawlessness and iniquity.” — Matthew 24:12
Huh?
I could hear my friend’s words echoing in my ears.
“I mean, you thought that just because I hang out with Mike he’s my boyfriend all of a sudden? We shared kisses a couple of times—so what? I’m playing with him and I’m sure he’s doing the same. Boys are dogs, especially him. You don’t think a guy like him—handsome, rich, funny—is capable of a monogamous relationship at this point in his life? Nah… don’t be fooled, sis. I don’t think he’s dating me for real. Who cares about love anyway? That’s something outdated, I guess.”
I snapped back to reality, escaping from the trance I had been pulled into.
“Wow… so all this is written in the Bible? Crazy accurate.
God, it’s becoming harder and harder to even find love—to find someone who truly cares. I shouldn’t look elsewhere. I myself am a villain of this exact thing. Have I ever loved anyone sincerely? Interesting, isn’t it, God?”
<sigh>
I opened my eyes and realized the pastor had already begun his teaching. So I opened my notebook and started taking notes from the sermon.

Nothing new, still felt
All I have seen is all I know,
All there could be,
All anyone would know,
For nothing is new under the sun.
Whether love or hate,
Truth or lie,
Glee or sadness,
Nothing new exists in this world
That could be felt, touched, or taken by.
Even I have seen much in my small time,
On this world of ambiguity and dissonance.
Then what makes my heart run wild,
If I am aware of all there is to know?
What makes me cry and laugh,
Even when I’ve met all emotions before?
Mighty people, given the power,
To stir all feelings at once,
Make the familiar feel new.
I grew fond of love, joy, and peace,
Surrendering to their effects on me.
People bestowed,
With the power to shape emotions,
Make me feel love, joy, hope, and peace,
Even when I’ve seen much in my small time,
In this world of ambiguity and dissonance.
