What to Expect from Indie Games in the Future?📈 The 6th version of one of the most popular game engines, Unity, brings significant changes compared to its previous non-numbered versions. A few years ago, Unity began reorienting towards data-oriented architecture and announced DOTS. DOTS is a set of technologies designed to deliver maximum performance by default. It includes: the Entity Component System, which allows for more efficient data arrangement in memory, thereby improving game performance; the Job System, a safe multithreading system; and the Burst Compiler. What does this mean for players? DOTS will enable the creation of games with a large number of interactive elements, as demonstrated in the demo scene for the early versions of the technology (you can check it out here). Additionally, Unity 6 is actively integrating AI to speed up the development and prototyping process of games. Currently, only a preview version of the 6th version of the game engine is available, but the first stable builds are expected by the end of this year. #GameDevelopment #Ai

Misunderstood Genius or an Attempt to Sell a Mediocre Project? On February 3, 2023, a project called "I'm Looking for 3024 People" was released on Steam. The game was categorized as a horror genre, and its intriguing description along with mostly positive reviews encouraged potential players to make a purchase. But is everything as good as it seems? If you look closely at the reviews, you'll notice that most of them seem to be about a different game or lack coherent thought altogether. The accounts that wrote these reviews have only one game and were created on the day the review was posted, suggesting that the reviews are likely fake. However, it's difficult to judge the game negatively based solely on fake reviews, so let's examine it more closely. What does the gameplay involve? It's just a short maze (literally a few corridors) in complete darkness with a background voice. The player can see absolutely nothing, and the maze can be completed in just eight actions. By the way, the game was priced at $4.99. If you manage to complete the game, you receive a piece of some code, one piece out of 3024. What is this code? According to the game's lore, you infiltrate a secret mega-corporation to expose it, but you can only do this by collecting the entire code and entering it on the game's Discord server simultaneously. Is it possible to discover the main secret related to the code from the game? No. Even if you manage to coordinate 3024 people to enter the code on the Discord server simultaneously, the difference in ping or Discord's anti-spam protection would still prevent it from working. After numerous reviews of the game appeared, the developer began issuing strikes and threatening lawsuits, which obviously didn't help. Despite all this, people attempted to play the game and actively encouraged others to join, but the project was eventually removed from Steam. The project can now be found on other platforms, but how actively it is still played remains a big question. #Steam #Game
