Think of Bybit’s cold wallet like a super secure bank vault where they keep a lot of Ethereum (ETH) safe. Normally, only a group of trusted people (signers) can unlock the vault by signing special transactions. What Happened? 1.A hacker tricked them •The team was shown a fake screen that looked completely normal. It was like a scam website that looks exactly like your bank’s site. •They thought they were signing a normal transaction, but they were actually changing the vault’s rules. 2.The vault’s lock was changed •Instead of just sending ETH to a warm wallet (a less secure but still safe wallet for daily transactions), the real message gave the hacker control over the vault. •Now, the hacker owned the vault and could take all the ETH inside. 3.The hacker emptied the vault •Once they had control, they transferred everything to their own unknown wallet. •This is like tricking a bank manager into handing over the keys, then running away with all the money. 4.Bybit says everything else is fine •They’re saying only this one vault was hacked. •People can still withdraw their money like normal. •They’re asking for help to track where the stolen ETH went. Why is this a big deal? •It shows how even secure crypto wallets can be hacked if people are tricked into signing the wrong thing. •The hacker didn’t break the system—they fooled the people using it. •This is a type of social engineering hack, where instead of hacking a computer, they trick humans into doing the hack for them. #ETH #BYBIT
