Over the past 24 hours, Ethereum has been trading at $2,545, which is about 7% below the monthly maximum.
However, there are signs that major investors are expecting a recovery in the leading altcoin in the coming months. Blockchain data shows that the amount of ETH held by “crypto whales” has been steadily increasing. These addresses now hold 103.5 million ETH, up from 102 million on March 1.
Other data shows that the Ethereum blockchain ecosystem is thriving, with the total value locked up up 26% in the last 30 days to over $132 billion. The total value of assets locked in cross-bridge contracts has grown to over $408 billion, far higher than other popular networks combined.
The Ethereum ETF has also seen inflows, with SoSoValue data showing $2.76 billion in inflows over the past six days.
The daily chart shows that Ethereum has risen from an April low of $1,382 to the current price of $2,547. The altcoin has formed a bullish “flag” pattern consisting of a strong vertical rise followed by a period of consolidation.
Ethereum is currently trading between the 38.2% and 50% Fibonacci retracement levels. A “golden cross,” a bullish signal, could emerge soon as the 50-day and 200-day weighted moving averages approach a crossover.
If Ethereum breaks the 50% Fibonacci retracement level at $2,730, it would confirm the bullish breakout. In that case, the next major target would be $3,000, which is 18% above current levels.

Incidents like these are not uncommon in the crypto space. In December 2024, another user paid 8.18 Bitcoin, which was worth over $800,000 at the time, to withdraw only 0.142 BTC.

"Because Bitcoin has the characteristics of a currency, such as a medium of exchange and a unit of account, it is simply another form of money. Therefore, Bitcoin may be exempt from capital gains tax," federal Judge Mark Moshinsky ruled.
In an interview with AFR, tax lawyer Adrian Cartland said the ruling "completely upends" the ATO's approach to taxing bitcoin and could potentially pave the way for not only a review of the tax liabilities of crypto investors who have been paying tax since 2011, but also multi-million dollar tax refunds. Cartland estimates that the amount of tax refunds could be between $640 million and $1 billion.
Earlier, the Australian Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) reported that more than 400 registered exchanges and over 5,000 money transfer services in Australia do not fully comply with requirements to prevent the use of digital assets for money laundering, fraud and terrorist financing.
