Some people believe that the best way to improve public health is by increasing the number of sports facilities. Others argue that this would have little effect on public health and that other measures are required.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Essay
Improving public health is a pressing concern for governments worldwide, and opinions vary on the best approach to achieving this goal. While some advocate for the expansion of sports facilities, others contend that such measures alone are insufficient and broader interventions are needed. This essay will discuss both perspectives and explain why a multifaceted approach is the most effective solution.
On the one hand, increasing the number of sports facilities can encourage physical activity, which is a key component of a healthy lifestyle. Access to gyms, swimming pools, and outdoor sports arenas provides people with more opportunities to exercise, potentially motivating them to incorporate fitness into their daily routines. For example, studies have shown that communities with ample recreational facilities tend to have lower rates of obesity and cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, accessible sports infrastructure can foster a culture of physical activity among younger generations, promoting long-term health benefits.
However, it is important to acknowledge that simply building more sports facilities does not guarantee widespread improvements in public health. Many people, particularly those with sedentary lifestyles, may not use these facilities due to lack of time, interest, or financial constraints. Additionally, public health is influenced by factors beyond physical fitness, such as diet, mental well-being, and access to healthcare. For instance, unhealthy eating habits and stress-related illnesses cannot be addressed merely by encouraging exercise. This highlights the need for complementary measures to address the broader determinants of health.
In my opinion, while increasing sports facilities is a positive step, it should be part of a comprehensive strategy to enhance public health. Governments should invest in public awareness campaigns to educate citizens about the importance of a balanced diet and regular exercise. Furthermore, policies that regulate the marketing of unhealthy foods and provide subsidies for nutritious options can promote better eating habits. Mental health initiatives, such as counseling services and stress management programs, are equally critical. By addressing these diverse aspects of health, a more significant and sustainable impact can be achieved.
In conclusion, while expanding sports facilities can encourage physical activity and improve public health to some extent, this measure alone is insufficient. A holistic approach that includes education, dietary regulation, mental health support, and accessible healthcare is essential for achieving lasting improvements in public health.

The pie charts compare the ways by which people from 3 countries learned English in 2010 and 2015. Overall,
evening classes emerged as the most popular method among learners in 2010 in all countries. However, the
proportions in the mix changed slightly by 2015, with a rise in preferences for alternatives such as online
education and learning English abroad but evening classes still maintained their status as the most preferred
approach. Notably, the drop in the share of people opting for this method of learning English was particularly
noticeable in the B country.
The country A followed almost the same pattern in both years. In 2010, 70% of people opted for evening
classes, a figure that fell slightly to 67% in 2015. Those who learned the language in a foreign country saw a
minimal decline in their figure β from an initial 25% in 2010 to 23% in 2015. Lastly, the proportion of people
who learned English online, though initially the smallest, experienced the most significant change, doubling
from 5% to 10%.
In contrast, the country B showed a rather different picture. The majority β 72% - preferred evening classes
in 2010 but this figure fell to 48% in 2015, representing the biggest percentage change among the other
nations. This change can somewhat be linked to the popularity of online learning in the second year as 32%
people chose this approach, up from a mere 8% in 2010. The proportion of those learning English abroad
remained the same at 20%.
The country C stood out as a place, where people overwhelmingly favored conventional way, as a staggering
94% of learners took evening classes and only 6% learned via the internet in 2010. Despite a 12-percentage
point fall, evening classes remained the most popular approach. However, the proportion of people learning
English online reached 15% while just 3% acquired the language in another country.
