There are plenty of these in Nigeria today. Be careful of new coins or tokens with no real project behind them. Stay away from platforms without CBN or SEC approval that ask you to send money for “trading.” They can disappear overnight.
6️⃣ Betting or Gambling Disguised as Investments:
All those sports betting apps marketing themselves as “wealth creation” will eventually destroy your finances. You better run now.
7️⃣ Fake Land & Real Estate Deals:
Never go into land or housing deals until you are sure the property has proper documentation and government approval. Do your due diligence. If possible, involve a real estate lawyer.
1️⃣ Ponzi Schemes:
Run from any investment that promises 200%, 100%, 50%, 20%, or even 10% interest in just a few days. RUN!
2️⃣ Unregistered Investment Platforms:
Avoid any investment platform that is not registered and regulated by the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission). You see that CAC registration certificate they all like to fly around, it is NOT enough. Anybody can get that one.
3️⃣ Unregistered Cooperative Societies or Community Microfinance Banks:
This is common in remote areas. Beware of any cooperative society or local microfinance bank that promises to give you a loan after you make some specific “contribution.” Avoid them if they are not licensed by SEC.
4️⃣ Unclear Online MLM Schemes:
Those MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) programs where you’re told you will become millionaire by recruiting more people or selling their products, run from them.
