Confirmation of AEC Federal Party Confidentiality
As a result of discourse online and comments by politicians, media and government over the last week, we wrote formally to the Australian Electoral Commision to seek formal confirmation that the membership lists are in fact confidential.
The AEC have responded and formally confirmed our understanding that for Federal Political Party registration, the member details are held in confidence and are not publicly accessible.
Please find their verbatim response below:
The AEC does not disclose or publish membership lists as part of registration processes (s 126), or as part of eligibility reviews (s 138A).
The AEC does not disclose membership information unless required to do so by law, for example under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (subject to the application of any exemptions and consultation requirements contained therein), the Privacy Act 1988, or under a validly issued warrant.
All personal information held by White Australia is held in the strictest confidence, in accordance with the Privacy Act, and with greater than industry standard encryption protocols, with limited access to data.
We intend to register the Federal Party first, with states and territories to follow, and will soon be in contact via email to all those that have signed up as political supporters, with details and instructions on next steps that they will be required to undertake as members of the White Australia Party.
We take utmost care in safeguarding the personal information and security of all those that are willing to support our political endeavour. We are extremely close to having the required 1500 persons, and are very grateful for those that are willing to assist in our party project.
In light of this confirmation, we would be grateful if you encouraged your friends and family to sign up as political supporters, to obtain us the final numbers.
