The Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX), licensed by the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA), will commence trading tomorrow, 10 January 2025. This marks Ethiopia's return to having a stock exchange after over five decades. The launch includes an initial public offering (IPO) for Ethio Telecom, aiming to raise 30 billion birr ($234 million). The ESX plans to list up to 50 companies within five years, providing new investment opportunities and diversifying capital flows beyond the banking sector. Despite challenges like regional instability and limited brokerage infrastructure, recent economic reforms and a 2022 peace accord have set the stage for the ESX to attract investors, boost economic growth, and reshape Ethiopia's financial landscape. @LinkUpbusiness

during an earthquake... If You Are Indoors During an earthquake, drop to your hands and knees to prevent falling. Protect your head and neck with your arms, and crawl under sturdy furniture like a table or desk for protection from falling objects. Stay there and hold on until the shaking stops. Avoid windows, mirrors, and tall furniture that could fall. It is usually safer to stay indoors unless the building shows signs of collapse. If You Are Outdoors Move to an open space away from buildings, trees, streetlights, and power lines. Once in a clear area, drop to the ground to avoid being thrown off balance by the shaking. If You Are Driving Pull over to a safe location, avoiding bridges, overpasses, tunnels, or anything that might fall. Remain in your vehicle until the shaking stops. Be cautious of damaged roads, debris, or hazards when resuming driving. If You Are Near Water Earthquakes near coastal or river areas can trigger tsunamis. As soon as the shaking stops, evacuate to higher ground. Stay tuned to emergency alerts for updates. After the Earthquake Inspect your surroundings for injuries and hazards like gas leaks or fires. Provide first aid if needed and avoid using your phone unless it's an emergency to keep lines open. Be aware of aftershocks and evacuate safely if the building is unsafe. Follow instructions from local authorities and stay informed through reliable channels.

Ethiopia has recently experienced a series of earthquakes, particularly in the Āfar region near Āwash. Over 14 tremors were recorded within a 24-hour period, causing minor property damage and displacing thousands of residents. The most powerful earthquake in this sequence reached a magnitude of 5.0 on the Richter scale and was felt as far as Addis Ababa. In the Awash Fentale district, more than 100 houses were damaged, and 2,560 people were displaced. Livestock losses have also been reported. The continuous seismic activity has raised humanitarian concerns, with more than 2,500 individuals left without shelter and in need of immediate assistance. Ethio Negari Ethiopia's location within the East African Rift Valley makes it prone to frequent tectonic shifts. Historically, the Rift Valley has been a hotspot for earthquakes, with 30 to 40 earthquakes of up to 6.8 magnitude recorded over the past 100 years. However, most of these did not cause significant damage due to smaller city sizes and the lack of tall buildings at the time. Ethio Negari The most recent significant earthquake occurred on January 1, 2025, at 11:09 am local time. This moderate magnitude 4.8 earthquake had its epicenter 12 km north of Āwash, Āfar, Ethiopia, at a depth of 10 km. The shaking was felt in several nearby towns and as far as Addis Ababa, approximately 153 km away from the epicenter. Volcano Discovery.

go read more about typefaces, typography, fonts, etc on fonts.google.com in the knowledge section

A typeface is the underlying visual design that can exist in many different typesetting technologies, and a font is one of these implementations. In other words, a typeface is what you see and a font is what you use. Decades of choosing type via software “font” menus has caused the majority of us to think of “font” and “typeface” as interchangeable terms for the same thing, but the difference is important for anyone serious about typography. Another useful analogy is that a typeface is to a song as a font is to an MP3 file: A font is a manifestation of the typeface/song, but the typeface/song exists outside of the format.
