📌 Primary vs Secondary Data Sources
Many students and researchers say “This study used both primary and secondary data sources.”
Sometimes this is correct. But, most of the time it is not.
🔹 Primary Data Source
Primary data are original data collected directly by the researcher for the specific purpose of the study.
✅ Examples:
• Questionnaires and surveys
• Interviews and focus group discussions
• Observations
• Experiments
• Field measurements
👉 If you collected the data yourself, it is primary data.
🔹 Secondary Data Source
Secondary data are data already collected by others and reused for analysis.
✅ Examples:
• Census and CSA statistics
• Administrative records
• Satellite images
• Existing datasets from organizations
• Archived survey data
👉 If you analyzed existing datasets, it is secondary data.
⚠️ The Most Common Confusion
📚 Literature review is NOT secondary data analysis.
• Books, journals, theses, and reports used in the literature review
• Previous studies used for comparison in discussion
❌ These are not secondary data sources in the methodological sense. They are used for building theory, identifying gaps, and discussing results.
✔️ They are secondary sources of information, not data used for analysis
🎯 Simple Rule to Remember
👉🏾If you analyzed it as data → it is a data source.
👉🏾If you only read it → it is a source of literature, not data.

Ethnography?
✍️Ethnography is a qualitative research approach used to understand people's culture, traditions, beliefs, and everyday practices by spending time with them and observing their lives.
Example
Imagine a researcher wants to understand the cultural significance of the Ethiopian coffee ceremony.
Instead of only asking people questions, the researcher spends time with families, observes how they prepare and serve coffee, participates in the ceremony when appropriate, and listens to the stories and beliefs associated with it.
👉The researcher seeks to understand the tradition from the perspectives of the people who practice it, within their everyday cultural context. Through ethnography, the researcher may discover that the coffee ceremony is not just about drinking coffee. It may also strengthen family relationships, build friendships, and help resolve community disagreements.
✴️ Ethnography helps researchers understand not only what people do, but also why their cultural practices are meaningful to them.

📦 Why do I often share software in ZIP format on Telegram?
Some followers have asked why I frequently share software as ZIP files instead of uploading the files directly.
The reason is simple. ZIP files make it easier to package multiple files into a single file, reduce file size to help stay within Telegram's free-version file size limit, and make sharing and downloading more convenient.
If you don't have WinRAR installed on your PC, you can install WinRAR on your computer to extract the files.👇
Recently, my inbox has been full of people asking how to deal with AI-generated text in their research. Many want to learn how to edit such text manually, but some are looking for a quick fix that is free, easy, and requires little effort.
The reality is that learning a skill takes time, practice, and a willingness to invest in yourself. There is no magic shortcut that replaces understanding the techniques and applying them properly.
This is why I prepared The AI Humanization Handbook. Rather than relying on scattered tips, you can learn the techniques in a structured, practical guide and refer back to them whenever you need them. I have made it available on Ye-Buna for just 499 birr.
Preparing a detailed handbook is different from preparing a short tutorial. It takes days of reading, organizing ideas, writing, and refining practical techniques. That time comes from my family time and the hours I should be spending on my PhD dissertation. The price is a small contribution toward that time and effort.
Thank you for your understanding and support!👇👇

"I am extremely glad that Professor Berhanu Nega, who is making a high level of effort to pull our country's education system out of the abyss, is continuing as the Minister of Education. Although the process of working to improve educational quality is bitter, there is no doubt that its fruit will be extremely sweet."
