📍Came across this in the biography of Sulayman ibn Abd al-Malik :

وكان من الأكلة المذكورين؛ أكل في مجلس سبعين رمانة وخروفا وست دجاجات ومكوك زبيب طائفي

“He was one of the renowned great eaters. In a single sitting, he ate seventy pomegranates🌱, a lamb, six chickens 🍗, and a makkūk of Ṭāʾif raisins🌸.” مكوك (makkūk) is an old unit of dry measure whose exact quantity varied by place and period.

⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️ For students of knowledge to boast merely about vast reading, subtle insights, and quick-wittedness is nothing to be proud of. The truth is that I am more impressed by a student's practice and devotion in worship than by his knowledge. Whenever I hear about a student's asceticism and piety, his dignity in my eyes and his honour in my heart increase so much that I begin to feel my own worthlessness before him. Many people have a passion for knowledge and they acquire it driven by a desire to dominate others, but the real question is, how many of them are there whose hearts soften out of fear of their Rabb, whose tongues remain constantly moist with the remembrance of Allah, and whose days and nights are spent in the recitation of the Qur'an? Imam Shafi'i says, "That knowledge is useless from which a person gains no benefit and blessing." And the greatest benefit and blessing of knowledge is that it motivates a person towards action. Hasan al-Basri also said so well: "He who is ahead of others in knowledge should also be seen ahead of all in the field of action." When Abu Ubaid could not benefit from some teachers, he mentioned it sorrowfully to Abdullah bin Idris. What an insightful reply Abdullah bin Idris gave, he said: "O Abu Ubaid! If some knowledge has been missed, do not grieve, but take care that action does not slip from your hands." By Allah! This can only be the statement of a person who has truly recognized his Rabb. O Allah! Give us a place under the shade of Your grace and kindness, grant us the ability to bow before You, and help us in Your remembrance, gratitude, and in performing the best worship.
