People often say attempts don’t matter, but the reality is different, especially when it comes to 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝟰 & 𝗠𝗡𝗖 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴.
The same applies to 𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗜 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘀 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, where company shortlisting is 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝘁𝘀 — if your attempts are higher, many companies won’t shortlist you at all.
In my experience with EY, the very first HR call starts with 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝘁𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲? If you have more than 3 attempts, you are simply told 𝗪𝗲’𝗹𝗹 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 — without your technical knowledge or potential even being evaluated.
So yes, attempts matter in the real job market, especially at the initial screening stage.

Make the most of your articleship by gaining 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲.

After multiple interviews and firsthand job-market experience, here are some important realities every CA Final student should know.

𝗗𝗼 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿?
People often say attempts don’t matter, but the reality is different, especially when it comes to Big 4 & MNC hiring and initial shortlisting. The same applies to ICAI Campus placements, where company shortlisting is based on the number of attempts — if your attempts are higher, many companies won’t shortlist you at all.
In my experience with EY, the very first HR call starts with “How many attempts did you have?” If you have more than 3 attempts, you are simply told “We’ll get back to you” — without your technical knowledge or potential even being evaluated.
So yes, attempts matter in the real job market, especially at the initial screening stage.
𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗼.
If you are currently doing your articleship, don’t treat it as just a formality. Your articleship profile, the size and reputation of the firm, the number of partners, and the kind of practical exposure you get matter significantly when you start looking for a job after qualification.
Make the most of your articleship by gaining relevant practical exposure.

Don’t study just to clear — interviewers do ask questions from your CA Final syllabus.

📌 AFM: Mutual Funds, Forex Basics, Security Valuation, etc.
📌 Audit: CARO, Assertions & Audit Procedures, etc.
📌 DT: TDS Rates, Trust Provisions, DTAA, Transfer Pricing, Recent Amendments, etc.
📌 IDT: GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-9, GSTR-9C, ISD, POS, Notices, Registration, Recent Amendments, etc.
And remember, CA qualification is just the beginning — English communication, confidence, body language, technical knowledge, practical exposure and skills like Advanced Excel, Power BI, Python, SQL and SAP matter in the job market.

During my CA journey, I heard this countless times.
Today, at the ICICI Bank session during the ICAI Campus Placement Drive, I saw different designations and compensation based on attempt categories.
Reality is, attempts may not define your potential, but they can influence your starting point.
