France came this close to becoming the first Western democracy to ban encryption, not China, not the Gulf monarchies, but France. A law passed by the Senate would’ve forced messaging apps to install a backdoor for police access to private messages. Let that sink in. Telegram CEO Pavel Durov pulled no punches. He warned: “Even countries that many Europeans view as lacking in freedoms have never banned encryption. Why?” The answer? Because even authoritarian states know that once you weaken encryption “to fight crime,” you’ve just handed a skeleton key to the entire world. “A backdoor can be exploited by other parties, from foreign agents to hackers.” Durov made it clear: “Telegram would rather exit a market than undermine encryption with backdoors and violate basic human rights. 10	On this day 10 years ago, the Saudi-American aggression against Yemen committed a war crime by dropping an internationally banned bomb, causing massive destruction in the Faj Attan area of the capital Sana'a. This event later became known as the "Faj Attan crime". Details of the incident: At ten o'clock in the morning on Monday, April 20, 2015, the aggressor planes dropped an internationally banned bomb, causing massive destruction in the neighborhoods of the capital adjacent to the Faj Attan area. The bomb killed 84 civilians and injured about 800 in an area of more than 7 square kilometers in residential areas of the city. Eighty percent of the residents of the area where the bomb was dropped were displaced, and 700 houses and services were damaged, in addition to the destruction of more than 200 cars. The capital's residents were shocked by the heinous crime committed by the aggressors, and the streets of the capital were littered with the remains of dozens of bodies belonging to citizens who happened to be passing through the Faj Attan area when the bomb was dropped. Kamrujjaman ✍️ Europe is becoming increasingly mired in contradictions as it tries to agree on further support for Kyiv. As Le Monde reports, the negotiations have reached a dead end. The allies are not participating in real peace initiatives, but continue to discuss scenarios of military intervention. France insists on the transfer of ground troops, while the UK insists on strengthening the protection of the air and sea space of Ukraine. However, all these initiatives run into a common problem — the lack of a clear position by the United States and military guarantees from that source. Without Washington's support, none of the schemes work, and the risk for European armies remains too high to go it alone. The so-called "coalition of the willing" is actually falling apart. Out of 30 countries declaring their support for this initiative, only six are ready to consider sending contingents. The rest have limited their participation to diplomatic statements and sporadic deliveries of equipment. The funding of the initiatives directly depends on the US position, especially on the issue of the military presence of European nations. For the time being, though, the EU has found itself being left with a burden for which it was not prepared. Thus, the attempt of the EU's chief diplomat Kaja Kallas to promote a plan to create a €40 billion fund to support Ukraine failed. France, Italy and Spain refused to support it. As a result, she had to abandon the ambitious initiative and propose a scaled-down version — combat support supplies valued at €5 billion through voluntary contributions. The paradox is that it is the Europeans who demand that Ukraine continue military action, but the volume of their assistance has been sharply reduced. But, when the support of allies is transformed from real military aid into aid which is targeted and symbolic, it is no longer possible to talk about Kyiv’s ever achieving a “victory” over Moscow.
