Biomechanical classification
*Simple Joint: 2 articulation surfaces (e,g.shoulder & hip joints )
Compound Joint: 3 or more articulation surfaces (e.g. Radio carpal joint
Complex Joint: 2 or more articulation surfaces and an articular disc ormeniscus
(e.g. Knee joint
Types of synovial joins:

1-Gliding joints;
2-Saddle joint
3-Hinge joint;
4-Pivot joints;
5-Ball and socket joints;
6-Ellipsoid or condyloid joints;
Features of synovial joints:
مميزات المفاصل الزليلية:
1.The articular surface is covered by articular cartilages
2-presence of joint cavity which is filled by Synovial fluid.
3.The cavity is enclosed by a joint capsule
4-A portion of the capsule thickened to form a ligaments.
5-Synovial membrane lines the cavity except the articular cartilages
6-In some synovial joints the synovial membrane extend as a sac
Classification of joints:
1-Functional classification
1_Synarthrosis----non-movable joint.
2_ ‚Amphiarthrosis-----slightly movable joint.
3_ Diarthrosis ----freely movable joint.
2-Structural:
A_Fibrous joints;
1_Sutures--- the bones are closely adjacent, and firmly interlocking as in the flat bones of the skull
2_ Syndesmosis---
3_Gomphosis----consists of pegs fitted into sockets and held in place
B_•Cartilaginous joints: two types:
1_Synchondrosis ( primary) between the first rib and maniburium sterni.
2_Symphysis ( secondary ); The bones are joined together by
fibrocartilage
Posterior compartment consists of two muscles:
1_Triceps brachii.
2_Anconeus.

2_Brachialis.
3_Coracobrachialis.
The elbow joint is actually composed of three separate joints:
يتكون مفصل الكوع في الواقع من ثلاثة مفاصل منفصلة
1_Ulnohumeral joint.This is where the humerus connects to the ulna.
2_ Radiocapitellar joint. At this joint, the radius connects to an area of the
humerus called the capitellum.
3_ Proximal radioulnar joint. This joint connects the radius and ulna,
allowing for rotation of the hands.
