Gonzalez de Clavijo and his description of the city of Andhuy in the country of the Tajiks
Gonzalez de Clavijo was an envoy of Don Henrique III, King of Castile and Leon, to the court of Emir Timur. In May 1403, he left Spain for Samarkand.
His travel notes are an important historical source. On this journey, he left vivid and detailed descriptions of cities that once flourished, but were then destroyed by the Mongols and Timur.
One of these cities was Balkh. However, Clavijo, traveling to Balkh via Merv, spent several days in Andhuy (in present-day Andkhoy, Faryab province) and recorded his impressions of it.:
The city of Andhui is located outside Iran, as we have reached the country of the Tajiks. The language of the locals is slightly different from the usual Persian, although many words are identical to Persian. We were greeted with great cordiality in Andhuya. We stayed there from the moment of arrival on Tuesday until Thursday, August 14th, 1403. We were received with special pomp and generosity. We were offered wine, which is produced in large quantities here, and it was placed in front of us in abundance. We were also given honorary robes and a horse. Thus, the Tajiks are an indigenous people of the north of modern Afghanistan and have made an invaluable contribution to the development of the entire region. ☝️

Дар Андхуи моро бо самимияти бузург пешвоз гирифтанд. Мо аз рӯзи сешанбе то панҷшанбеи 14 августи соли 1403 дар он ҷо будем. Моро бо шукӯҳу шаҳомати хоса пешвоз гирифтанд. Ба мо шаробе пешниҳод карданд, ки дар ин ҷо ба миқдори зиед истеҳсол мешавад ва он дар назди мо фаровон гузошта шудааст. Ба мо инчунин либос ва аспи фахрӣ дода шуд.Ҳамин тариқ, тоҷикон мардуми бумии Шимоли Афғонистони муосир буда, дар рушди тамоми минтақа саҳми бебаҳо гузоштаанд. ☝️

When Tajiks are proud of Cyrus and other Persian kings, their Iranian brothers do not want the word Tajiks to be mentioned in any of the dynasties. Our entire history , starting with the Saks and Scythians , ending with the Kushans , has been rewritten as their history . And now the only great country where it is referred to everywhere as Tajik, they want to write the same to themselves.It's time for Tajiks to wake up and know what a Persian is and who Tajiks are, Persians are one of the peoples of Iran, and we Tajiks are one of the Indo-European peoples who live in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, China, Pakistan and other countries.
