Electronic Intifada Highlights

As soon as internet access in Iran returns to normal — after being shut down by the government for the third time, and now for more than 300 hours — this Telegram channel will resume its activity. I will continue to learn about Gaza and Palestine, to listen to their stories, and to speak about them whenever I can. Until then — if I survive both the government’s repression in Iran and the U.S.–Israeli bombs that shake the walls of our homes every day and kill dozens of Iranians — DO NOT stop talking about Gaza.

After nearly 300 hours of a state-imposed digital blackout by Iran’s government — the Islamic Republic — affecting almost 90 million citizens, this Telegram channel’s admin has finally regained access. But what has unfolded in Iran in recent days — including mass killings, the arrest of thousands, and above all, a total nationwide shutdown of communications — has drained my energy and motivation to continue this channel. Israel’s persistently genocidal state, over more than two years of genocide and ethnic cleansing in Palestine — especially in Gaza — has only in certain instances imposed direct and total communication blackouts on Gaza. Those hours and days were times of terror: unforgivable and unforgettable. Yet Iran’s government has now deliberately and systematically cut its own people off from the internet for ten consecutive days. Such conduct is unforgivable when carried out by a foreign occupying power against an indigenous population — and even more unforgivable when committed by a government against its own citizens. For this reason, this Telegram channel — fully aware that the genocide in Palestine is still ongoing, and that the Palestinian cause is more central and decisive than ever at national, regional, and global levels — is suspending its activity for an indefinite period. The Islamic Republic’s clear policy is to silence every voice except its own propaganda. And living in a country where people’s voices are being strangled by a criminal authority, speaking about Gaza has become, for me, exhausting and disheartening. Still, this channel’s content will remain online as an untouched archive — a record of parts of the Holocaust of our time, which began in October 2023 and continues today. It is also a small testimony to one Iranian’s effort to help amplify the voice of Palestine in a world that has grown numb to injustice. I thank everyone who followed this Telegram channel during this time. I also thank those who, by sharing this and other Palestine-related content, refused to allow crime and evil to become normalized. Above all, I thank the extraordinary and courageous Palestinian writers, and the Electronic Intifada team, who brought us voices of freedom, dignity, and love of life. For a brief time, I had the chance to republish and translate their work. The struggle against repression, mass killing, and the denial of human rights — in short, against death and destruction — is a lesson the world continues to learn from Palestine, no matter where we live or under whose power: Gaza, the United States, Egypt, Iran, or anywhere else. Watch the entire episode here.] ⭕️ No let-up in Israeli massacres of Palestinian children 🔻 Israel killed and injured Palestinians despite the 10 October ceasefire Israel continued killing and injuring Palestinians across Gaza even after the 10 October ceasefire, while blocking desperately needed humanitarian aid as winter arrives. Israel’s destruction of houses across the “yellow line” continued, threatening Palestinians trying to return home. Reporters documented “continuous gunfire,” airstrikes, artillery shelling and explosions in eastern Khan Younis on 18 November. 🔻 Israel conducted a series of airstrikes across Gaza On 19 November, Israel carried out airstrikes on multiple locations, killing at least 32 Palestinians including 12 children. Tents and crowded shelters in al-Zaytoun and Shujaiya were hit, including a drone attack on a building housing displaced people. Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal was filmed holding the body of a little girl. More than 24 civilians were killed that day. Al Jazeera reported explosions, drones and fighter jets indicating a military campaign. 🔻 Israel targeted a UN building and carried out additional attacks In Khan Younis, Israel targeted people inside a UN building, killing at least three. At least 88 were injured in the day’s attacks. Video showed Palestinians transporting the wounded. On 18 November, a Palestinian was killed by sniper fire in the “safe zone” beyond the yellow line; two Palestinians were killed in a similar incident on 17 November. Israeli drones also fired on a school sheltering displaced families, wounding at least 10 “during a ‘ceasefire’ that never ceased Israel’s fires.” 🔻 Israel commits hundreds of ceasefire violations The Gaza media office reported 393 Israeli violations since 10 October, causing 279 deaths, 652 injuries and at least 35 abductions. Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said the massacres, destruction and aid blockade form “a systematic pattern” using the ceasefire “as a cover to continue genocide,” warning of the dismantling of Gaza’s geographical unity. 🔻 Floods exacerbate humanitarian catastrophe Winter rains and flooding affected more than 18,000 households starting 14 November. Thousands lost shelters or were displaced again. Gaza faces its third winter “without protection,” with more than 288,000 families in severe conditions. At least 300,000 tents and mobile homes are needed as Israel blocks tents, flooring materials, insulation, mobile clinics, lighting and “dual-use” items. More than two-thirds of Gaza’s children remain exposed to disease and cold in flooded tents. 🔻 Attacks by soldiers and settlers in West Bank Israeli forces attacked Beit Ommar on 18–19 November, imposing a full curfew, occupying homes, positioning snipers and arresting around 150 residents. In Tulkarm, Al Jazeera cameraman Fadi Yassin was shot while covering a nonviolent protest.
