Day 9 - Sandwich it! Have you ever heard about the Sandwich method? Probably you haven't because I made it up myself. Here is how I deal with subskills of IELTS I feel most resentful. Say, I don't like preparing for speaking (which in fact is the exact opposite) I divide it to manageable parts like preparing for part 1 for an hour followed by a listening practice to let my mind off from it. Once listening is finished and checked thoroughly, I get back to my speaking. This time I place I fully concentrate on the second part of speaking for another hour. Feeling satisfied from my individual long-turn I next sit for a reading test. Reading section completed (hopefully with a full band 9) I then complete the last section of speaking part 3 for an hour. Of course, spending an hour is not the golden standard but merely a suggestion which works best for me. All I suggest is that you sandwich any task you feel anxious about. Bit by bit you will see improvement in that task. Keep practicing in the same way until you feel no need to do so. Try it, you won't regret the time you spend on it.

Day 8 - The power of basmala Basmala is an abridge of bismillah or Bismillahi Rohmaniyr Rohiym Muslims say every time they start on their chores. The common complaint for some students is when they feel overly excited ruing their tests or during a speaking interview. Well, the Almighty Allah tells his servants to start every good deed with a basmala. He grants baraka for those who put their trust in his mercy and generosity. Having said that, when a student utters his basmala before his exams this means that he is seeking refuge from the most powerful, the most intelligent provider of sustenance. Man are forgetful by nature. If by any chance you forgot to say these magic words not a big deal. Just say Bismillahi fi avvalihi va axirihi and consider yourself under Allah's support wholeheartedly. At my language school we take mock tests for students every Sunday using authentic exam and pre-test materials. I like to sit for an exam with my students to check my current level. If I feel disbalanced or lacking focus I know that I didn't say a basmala before the test and quickly fix my mistake. Here is a question to check how many people just read what I have to share. How many times do you say bismillah in a day? how do you deal with stress before exams and interviews?

Day 7 - Make a to do list I would like to share a method that I practice that keeps me from wasting my time and use my time more sensibly. Every morning I take a sheet of paper and write 7 things I feel in that need my immediate attention or things I must do. This could be anything. be it to go shopping for building materials for my new office or reciting several pages from my daily feed of a novel. Students often see me carrying a sheet in my pocket and having a look at it during break times. Honestly speaking I have never been able to complete my list so far. The best I achieved in a day was 6 while the worst was 2. The point is that before I practiced this habit I used to spend time lingering in the hall room either watching Tv or scrolling through the news feed of my mobile phone. But now I know that procrastination leads to the delay of plans and accordingly to less crossed lines on my list. And God how I like to cross things from the list when I see them completed. If you are a procrastinator building great plans to colonize Mars but still not able to get you ass of the coach then try it and you won;t regret it!

Day 6 - Teachers are best learners You repeat something over and over again but you feel you got stuck in one place. If this sounds familiar to you then read through what I have to share today. In my experience as a language learner I came to realize that I have a firmer recess if I lecture about the thing I learned to myself. I always made sure I understand what I have read or listened to and then be able to explain it. If I failed to do one without completing the other then I went to the drawing board and worked with parts where I lacked focus. By observing my role models i.e. teachers I came to a realization that that's what they do all the time. They learn and they share what they learned. The more they do it, the sharper and more to-the point their lecture becomes. A simple comparison of a teacher vs. a student is enough to show that almost everyone considers their teachers to be smarter above anyone else in their class. If you wish to supersede others then you need to replicate from the best in the world of academia. So, with a firm belief in yourself, a confident voice and willingness to bring a change into the monotony in your learning now, stand up and start giving a lecture. Don't you be ever discomforted by what the others say or think about you. Their opinion should never be bothering you. Learn through trial and lecture and soon you notice remarkable changes in your speech and delivery. It is a life long skill. Just take it and you will thank me later.

Day 5 - No idea is too small Well, you may think that you have heard about it many times and there is nothing to learn. But let me assure you otherwise. There are at least two things I have learned from this notion from the moment I came across it, first of which no one should ever remain silent when they have ideas. Perhaps, you re wrong, perhaps your idea may sound crazy to others, nevertheless you should never let others judge you and never be afraid of speaking up. Success can never be achieved without making mistakes. Secondly, don't feel opinionated about yourself and think of others as your inferiors. In my experience as a teacher I have had students, assistants, colleagues and friends who at some point did not stand out of the crowd but who realized their potential to an extent that they serve as inspiration for me today. What I mean is, if you wish to be a leader you need to learn to listen to others and get the best of them. In the words of Thomas Jefferson "If we have achieved anything, that's because we were standing on the giants' shoulders". Well, that's something you should consider.
