*EDUCATION MINISTER CLEARS THE AIR ON JAMB CUT-OFF MARK*
_The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has clarified that the Minimum Tolerable UTME Score approved during the JAMB Policy Meeting is not the same as an institutionβs actual cut-off mark._
_He explained that the minimum tolerable score simply means institutions are not allowed to admit candidates below that benchmark._
_However, schools can still fix their own cut-off marks higher depending on competition, course requirements, and available admission slots._
_For example, if the approved minimum benchmark is 150, it does not mean every institution must admit candidates with 150. Institutions can decide to use 180, 200, or even higher scores for certain courses._

*JAMB extends DE registration deadline*
Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has again extended the registration deadline for the 2026 Direct Entry (DE) application exercise.
According to the latest update from the Board, the registration process will now continue until May 22, 2026, providing prospective Direct Entry candidates additional time to complete their applications.
The extension is expected to accommodate applicants who are yet to finalise their registration due to delays in obtaining required credentials and other supporting documents.
JAMB had earlier extended the registration deadline to May 8, 2026, and also approved additional accredited registration centres across the country to ease the process for candidates.
The latest extension further underscores the Boardβs effort to ensure that all qualified applicants are properly captured in the 2026 admission exercise.
Candidates seeking admission through Direct Entry have been advised to take advantage of the extension and avoid waiting until the final days before completing their registration.
Meanwhile, the Board is expected to intensify preparations for the 2026 admission process ahead of the admission policy meeting scheduled for May 11, 2026.
The Direct Entry programme is designed for candidates with advanced qualifications such as National Diploma (ND), Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE), Higher National Diploma (HND), IJMB, JUPEB, and bachelorβs degrees seeking admission into Nigerian universities beyond the 100-level entry point.
